Vegemite is yum, I agree! But really, you are probably better off without it anyway! So high in salt!
I decided to introduce peanut butter early to DS (around 7/8 months I think) - there is a school of thought that holding off on introducing it is actually raising the number of kids with allergies. But that was my choice - some others would disagree with me. You can buy salt-free peanut butter if you are concerned about the sodium levels.
I think the recommendation for egg white is 12 months, but yolk is earlier. As with the peanut butter, I introduced both earlier than the "recommended" age.
Some other suggestions:
How about avocado? DS loves mushed up avocado spread on his sandwiches.
I also make him toasted sandwiches with lots of healthy stuff (eg. avocado, shredded carrot, salmon & cheese - he loves that one; or baked beans, avocado & cheese; or avocado, tomato, shredded carrot & cheese). Last night I made him a toasted sandwich with leftover savory mince (minced meat with vegies in it) & cheese - that was a winner too! Toasted sandwiches are the way I get DS to eat lots of vegies etc - he loves them!
