    Pregnant and breastfeeding :)

    Hi all

Well we are blessed with a surprise baby Just found out we are pregnant with our second - a total surprise as it took nearly 3 years and a heap of fertility treatment to fall with our first

Anyways, I'm still b/f my first - she is only 8 months old - is there anything I should look out for while b/f her and being pregnant? Should I up my vitamin uptake just in case? Should I expect my supply to drop?

    Thanks

Lots of women BF while being PG,and tandum feed once the new bub comes along, you have to look after yourself, plenty of rest (not so easy) nutition, and keep up the water intake. your body will have a lot of demands put on it . Some women have nipple tenderness from the hormone changes. I remember hearing that later in the PG your milk will turn into colostrum ready for the new bub,and this is where some older babies may self wean, others stick with it and you may decide to tandum feed. The ABA is a great place to find out more info. HTH
    congrats. on your pg.

My milk supply dropped dramatically when I got pg and unfortunately I weaning Flynnie at 9 months (I was aiming for 12 months) Now I was working 3 days a week and expressing so the same might not apply to you, but when I get pg again (we are aiming for 3 kids 18months apart) I will make sure I contact the ABA and/or chemist/naturopath to take whatever supplements I can to keep my supply going. Heaps of women continue to BF during pg but equally many have supply issues so please contact the ABA if you have any concerns. HTH and congrats

    Hi,

Congratulations! As with many things breastfeeding (and concerning babies in general!) there is no clear script! For about 70% of women, their milk supply seems to diminish markedly around the 12 wk period. If you are just pregnant, that should be around when your baby is 12 mnths old. As your baby is taking foods other than breastmilk as well, you should be able to keep feeding and then just put your child onto cows milk from a cup at 12 mnths. If you and your baby desire, you can continue to breastfeed right through the pregnancy and tandem feed both. In some circumstances the baby will seem to lose interest in breastfeeding, and self wean during the pregnancy. For many women this is also a welcome outcome.
I recommend highly Hilary Flowers' book "Adventures in Tandem Feeding"
    Regards
    Barb
