Hayley, Get in contact with WA ambulance service. In SA it is sometimes covered by PHI but u can get it seperately. no concession family was $130 per year, and for 1 ambulance trip it is $800! ours has paid for itself 6 times over! definitely get it. It is not good for a family to get a bill like that! and with kids u r bound to use it.

I have ambo cover i think under HBF essentials. But DP would be the kind to jump in the car and be his own ambo driver and hope to gawd the police understand if pulled over and escort. HAHA. But of course if i told him id feel safer actually going in a ambo or him just driving normally he would. Or he would try haha.
Im getting excited about labour. Im 6 months preg, 3 months to go...not too long now. i just cant wait for the day when i say 'OMG my waters have broken!" haha.
Jess we got told ours is a girl, no % to it, but DP and i are still reluctant to get girl stuff coz we dont want it to turn out to be a boy. Although we both have paused on the part of the scan where she told us it was a girl, and for sure it is a girl. But still! I think i needa just jump out there and buy something, then DP will start haha.
-
meg, hun only about 15% of labours start with waters breaking. both of mine were artificially ruptured just before delivery. the sac makes it easier to push too. I really hope your labour is not so fast that u don't make it to the hospy. We only used our ambo cover after Em was born coz she was so sick and ended up in hospy for 10 days and i had no access to the car when we needed to take her in to the hospy.
-
Hehe yea i know not all start with them breaking, but u get my gist. We only worry coz our hossy is a good half or so hour drive from our house, so in peak hour we are most likely to use ambo, maybe, but only coz it would make 30 mins into 90 mins depending. Peak hour here in perth is soo bad, not that i can really compare it coz i dont know what the other cities' peak hour is like but DP says its worse than any other city.

Hiya Hayley :)
I just had a thought, because Flinders is techically closer, if i called and Ambulance to get to the hospital when i'm in labour thats where they're gonna take me... not that it REALLY matters its just i'm at the WCH now and for my circumstances i like them better, Flinders might just bully me into another c-section, then again if i calll them its prolly gonna be coz its an emergency so a c-section is probably warranted anyway. Also if i'm having such a fast labour i'd be more inclined to go for a c-section i think because i would imagine the risk of uterine rupture would be increased if everything's all extra ferocious around there iykwim. So much to consider and think about regarding all of this...
Luckily Adelaide peak hour isn't so bad, the traffic still moves, i've been in Brisbane peak traffic though... a 10 minute drive took about an hour, that was pretty nasty. Yeah Perth sounds pretty bad too.
-
Jess - Im the opposite, I say spend away!!!! LOL. We got told that our DD was a girl 75% and I went through the same thing as you. So I booked another scan and they said they are pretty sure its a girl but not definate. I could not resist though! It was so exciting knowing I would have my little princess! We bought her whole wardrobe and painted her room pink! (This poor child is destined to be very girly....LOL). Maybe just keep the tags on all the clothes you buy, so you can take them back if you need to. Or worst case scenario, you could sell them or put them on Ebay. Then there is the thought, are you planning anymore babies in the future? Maybe you would get a girl then. LOL. Just my opinions, but I was waaaaaaaaay to impatient to wait for bubs to be born to go shopping!
They will never tell you 100% sure the sex anyway, just in case they are wrong. And 80% sounds pretty good to me.
GO SHOPPING GIRL!!!! :)
-
The place i went to said they wouldnt tell us the sex unless they are 100% sure. The place also has a very good reputation for never being wrong. I think I might go shopping!!
-
Hello Hayley :D Welcome to our thread :D
Meg... you are only just over 1/2 way... you don't want your waters breaking for AT LEAST another 13 weeks!!! I'm sorry... it just really worries me I here "I can't wait". LOL you'd think I'd be over it by now... ho hum...
Take care :D
-
I love baby shopping, i picked up some great specials in our local Target Country today... cute lil body suits!
Enjoy your shopping Meg!
-
Welcome Hayley!!!
My waters had to be broken as my labour had been going on on and off for 3 days and the midwife broke them to speed labour up. Well it worked! Waters broken at 9.15am and Ellie born at 2.40pm.
-
Meg, my waters broke at home in the middle of the night, I was so sleepy I thought I had wet myself. Is this baby your first? Do you have any names in mind? What hospital are you planning on having her at? Sorry so many questions!!
I love baby shopping too, I really have to focus to control myself! I could spend a bomb on baby clothes.
-
Hayley, yeah its my first! SO exciting!! We are almost certain we will call her Isabell, either that or Isabella, not sure which one we want atm. We are booked in at King Edward, had a look at Joondalup and Osborne Park etc but we both thought King Edward would be the best bet, especially coz most people we have spoken to have had their bubs there and had no complaints. Ive been for one appt there already and i absolutely loved the midwifes!! Looking forward to my next appt which is on monday! Where did u have your bub at??
-
I haven't really bought anything for this baby. We gave all our boys clothes to B&SIL, they had a boy about 4 months ago and since they're done with the clothes (and they were given even more by other people) they're gonna give them all back again hehe
I might just buy one or two little outfits that he can wear and look cute in at the hospital in particular when all the visitors come rushing in
I've never had my water spontaneously break :( would be exciting.. hopefully this time around with the VBAC!

Hi All,
I stumbled across Belly Belly yesterday. Im 23 and expecting my first in Aug. Im so excitied.
Its so great to actually find some people in my age group. We dont know many people who have had kids recently, and all are much older than me.

Hiya Sal! Ok so I don't confuse you, you're Sal, and Brendan's Mum is Sally. Welcome!!! How exciting and congratulations!
-
Hello & welcome Sal, congratulations on your pregnancy wishing you a H & H time
-
Hello Sal (hmmm feels like a post to me :P )
welcome to BB!! Congrats on your pregnancy I hope you have a long, happy and healthy one!!
Meg, My DS was born at king eddies and they are fantastic! I only ever had a problem with 1 nurse, but she worked in the NICU, so you probably won't meet her! The ward ladies are lovely! Most of them very easy going too, which is great :D

I absolutely loved the midwife i had my first appt with, which just makes me even more excited about the whole birthing process...and to be honest i was petrified of giving birth, but after being at the hosp and meeting only one of the many midwifes i feel 100% confident and happy about giving birth.
-
Hi Sal. What state do u live in?
-
Hey Meg, the fear goes when you go into labour, and the pain is there (there's lovely happy gas which works for so many) and then you can yell at everyone and they do what you say and then you have a little bubby in your arms.
-
Cate- you make giving birth sounds so easy haha, hopefully it will be
-
LOL - Sorry Joanne, but trust me, its not!
-
I can dream but cant i Becky , if wishes were dishes..............
-
Oh I'm sorry, I just wanted to empower you! Give you confidence!
-
I'm sure it will be fine, just a little daunting at the moment
-
sweetheart, I did it without drugs twice. yes it hurts but it is worth it. do what u need to do and don't let anyone make you feel like you didn't do it right. not even yourself.
-
I was scared and went in twice when I felt I was in labour. The third time I rang my midwife and cried on the phone that she'd send me home again. She said this time she'll induce me as I was quite distressed and it was hurting a bit. But its not so bad, breaking my wrist hurt more, yet labour was just a longer period of time and I was allowed pain relief (I broke my wrist at 30 weeks, fell over. damn spider-looking grasshopper).
-
Meg - I had Madeline at Kind Edward too. The midwives there are all excellent (well the ones I had anyway) They are so supportive, especially in the labour room, where you need it the most. You will be fine.
Yes childbirth is pretty painful, but you get through it. Just think, many women have done it before you and many go back for more. A little tip is to keep as positive as possible when in labour, every contraction is one less and a step closer to meeting your baby. Seriously keep thinking that, I found as soon as I started to doubt myself, the pain kicked in big time. Also dont be afraid to yell at the top of your lungs, lol it helps. You can do it girls!!!
-
Suck on that gas girls!!
hehe :D My birth experience is quite different, due to the circumstances I had no choices for my labour. I had to give up my choices for the health of my baby, I signed a consent form when my waters broke (at 28wks) to do whatever necessary to keep my baby alive. I did most of it without pain relief, but then it got critical (Brendans stats dropped) and was given an epidural as they were getting me ready to have a c-sect, Brendan wanted me to have my natural birth because he was born within about 15-30 mins of having the epi!! It's a pain you'll never forget, but you will overcome it when you see your beautiful child!
Good luck girls :D

Hi all - hope you all had a great new year!
I'm up to day 46 of my cycle and no sign of AF at all - I've POAS last Friday and it was a BFN, so I know I'm not pg, maybe I should test after I get paid on Wednesday, no harm in it. If AF hasn't arrived by at least next Wednesday and I've not gotten a BFP, I'm going to the drs
-
Good idea LJ. i would visit the Dr if i was u.
-
Hmmh :( i just had a whole reply typed out and then it seemed some one took over my computer and was moving the mouse around, closed the window and then moved the mouse around all over...im going to virus scan, even though i did one this morning!!
Sooo any ways, as i was saying...
Im sitting here with a huge grin plastered on my face!! You girls are so funny and so supportive!! I love you all! Its good i have you all to talk to, because none of my friends have been through any of this before, so i cant get any info or gossip from them!! I absolutely love this site too! Its been soooooo good! to all!
BTW Welcome Sal!! Im sure you will love bellybelly as much as we all do, and watch out, its addictive, but in a good way (Any one thinking bellybelly anonymous?? coz i seriously am :P)
Okay, im seriously gonna go now and cry coz my computer is going mental!! I dont even know why, grr! Back in the morning girlies.
-
Welcome Sal!
I'm so tired this morning, didn't get much sleep and DS1 decided to wake me up nice and early with demands to watch tv and was ready with a huge tantrum when i didn't want to put it on for him. :(
On a happier note the foxtel guy's coming around today to fix it! i've grown attached to my foxtel after the kids have gone to bed....
-
I'd be off to the drs too LJ. *sending baby dust*
Awwww Meg, we love you too! :grouphug:
Labour isn't that bad, if it was women would only have 1 child (or twins, ect)! It is soooo totally worth it :D
Here's a rant for the day:
I am so sick to death of people (FIL) telling me that my labour and birth "doesn't count" and was "easier" another good one... they tell me "I didn't feel the pain of true labour". 1st of all I had a baby and that is labour/birth, how doesn't that count???? Second of all if anything my labour was harder, my uterus had to work twice as hard to push "not a lot out" I have gotten opinions from other premmie mums who have other children and they ALL told me their premmie birth was harder. In other words it was harder for them to push their 900gm babies out and easier for them to push their 3kg baby out. I understand that a bigger baby crowning would definitely hurt (ouchies) But as far as the labour goes, contractions are contractions and its a person pain threshold that differs!! Why do people have to belittle me??? Do they not think about what they are saying, why try and make themselves look better than me? Yes their births were better than mine.... BUT they didn't "feel the pain" of seeing their newborn be resuscitated and then watching every single day their little bub was in hospital struggling to survive. But because they think I didn't feel labour pains my labour doesn't count.... may as well kill me now, my body already failed my son and I have to live with that for the rest of my life! Aaaaargh i'm so upset :( Who cares who much a baby weighed or if they had natural or c-sections. A baby was born and it was a beautiful (but very scary) moment. why can they not just leave me alone!
Sorry that turned into a longer rant than i thought... :(

BTW i'm not trying to make my labour sound harder than anyone else's I'm just annoyed and upset that people do it to me :( Everyone has a difficult labour to themselves and most of us have nothing to compare.... if i'd had another child i'd compare their births, but no way would I compare my birth to someone else's!
Oh and I was in labour for just over 20hrs. thats counting constant contractions with no pain relief until i started the gas at around 14hrs. I started to dialate at around 4 pm so my active labour was just under 12 hrs. And if we want to get technical my labour was 2 weeks (my waters broke at 28 wks, and I was having contractions from the day after they broke), but due to the interference of drs, they kept stopping it.
Aaaaargh, I shouldn't have to explain myself!
-
I've just googled labour, lol, and the site it came up with this:
I was in the first stage of labour for 2 wks and 1 day and around 8.5 hrs. the second stage of labour was around 1 hour. And the 3rd stage was about 30 mins.
1st stage is the cervix started to thin, accomponied by contractions and until the cervix is 10cms dialated.
2nd stage is the birth, delivery of the baby once 10cms dialated.
and 3rd stage is the delivery of the placenta.
-
Sally the first stage of labour is the worst I think! And here you were going through it for two weeks. And then to top it all off you had to deal with a very unwell baby. Ignore FIL, he really has no idea what a woman has to go through. Sure i'm guessing he sat by his wife's side through her birth(s), but he will never truly know what childbirth is like. Besides even though Brendan was born early and therefore had a lower than normal birth weight, that is still a decent amount to have to push out!!
Jade - Oh no not looking forward to the tantrums!!
Meg - I've had someone or something take over my computer like that before. Very freaky!
-
You ladies are great and ever so supportive, feels like we've got our own little cheer squad for labour haha. I'm the same as Meg none of my friends have had kids as yet, so chatting to you all its great.
Sally- no matter what anyone says you went through labour and gave birth, and it does count and you by no means had it any easier so dont pay ANY attention to FIL he has no idea what hes talking about. Everyones experience with labour & giving birth is ALWAYS going to be different and no one has the right to be-little you because of their views.
-
I was in the first stage of labour for 28 hours total, second for about 30 mins or less and third stage for 15 mins or less. I had gas for the last 8 hours, minus 2 because I was getting fainty and they took it off me and suggested I have a bath. I still bloody wanted it! So gas for just 6 hours.
Sally, nice ticker! Keep your chin up, you have a big healthy baby boy. What more could anyone want?
-
And your FIL was probably at the pub for his 3(?) kids births. He hasn't got a leg to stand on.
