My mum guessed (i got twnety questions when i was quiet on the phone) so I'm not sure
Do you plan on telling her over the phone or in person?
Do you want it to come across as scared and fearful or would you like to feel confident about it?
If you wangt to show her from the start that you're happy and you have made this decision consciously (rather than fearing what she might say) you could buy her a fridge magnet or something that says "What happens at Grandma's stays at Grandma's" Do your brothers have any children or is the the first grandchild?
i was planning o tell her in person as i live with her, im not sure what i want it to come across as i just want her to know, my oldest brother has 2 kids and my middle brother and his first gf got pregnant twice but decided not to continue with the pregnancys, and so im scared
If it was me, I would try and say something that acknowledges that you know she will disappointed (because it seems inevitable, right?), but right now you are scared, and you need her support. She can be as mad as she likes, but you need HER and only she can support you the way you might need at the moment.
Sorry no ideas, but when I told my mum I only found out a week after getting a new tattoo on my leg and I told her at christmas. I said "oh look at my tattoo. do you like it? blah blah blah. Im pregnant. I like the blue in it, it took ages to get done blah blah blah" The the visitors turned up so she didnt say anything LOL I was scared to tell her because everything Id ever done was wrong or a mistake in her eyes, and it still was up until Maddie was born & now she's had a complete turn around now that she's seen I can cope and I dont need help.
Best of luck.
thanks for that i think im just gonna have to spit it out perferably when there is nothing she can throw at me is around, my partner thinks we should take her out to dinner so she cant go nuts
Dinner is a nice idea I think. She might walk out though, which i guess is better than creating an argument, but you might be better in an evironment where she will talk? You never know she might be really good about it... i hope so!
LEt us know how things go, will be thinking of you.
I can't help but laugh at taking her out to dinner so she cant go nuts, prob cause that wouldnt stop my mum. lol
I sat down and told my mum i had to tell her something, then i went really quiet and she asked what it was, i said promise you wont yell at me first and then she guess first go i was preg. Not to scare you, she didnt yell at me but she did tell me i was terminating whether i liked it or not. I had seen my doc before i told her and my doc knows my mum so well she told me to decide what i wanted to do before i told my mum cause we all knew what she was gonna say.
I like Ash's idea about the fridge magnet but obviously its not gonna work so well if she already has grandkids. Maybe you could buy something (lil jumpsuit) and leave it in plain view where she will see it. Sorry im really bad at this, i was scared like you, but the quicker you get it over and done with the better it will feel. Think of it like a band-aid.
I just told my parents over the phone.Dad was really excited but mum just went silent.I was going 'Mum,Mum;Mum did you hear what I said?" down the phone and eventually she said 'I just have to process this Laura" she was shocked but ultimately happy.
Good luck.In the end she is your mother and will always love you and get over it.
im not so sure about that laurab, i think i should see the doctor and get that all out of the way thantell her and i think it would be better if i told her coz she really will have a cow if there is a jumpsuit sitting around and my partner lives with us so he is expecting to get kicked out but if he goes so do i. coz we have some friends that have said we can stay with them if we need to. i wont tell her till next week sometime, i nearly told her this morning but i want to know how far along i am before telling her, im sorry if i have so many questions i just need reassurance and i havent told any of my friends yet
