Progesterone Pessaries during long term TTC

I have been TTC for over 18 months (21 cycles) and have just been diagnosed with Hashimotos and mild lupus. My thyroid levels have stablised very quickly on thyroxine and I have just started taking prednisone to stop my immune system going beserko (my FS thinks that I may be conceiving but my body is rejecting implantation).

I have also been told to start progesterone pessaries as soon as I can confirm O, as apparently studies have shown that progesterone also helps suppress immune responses. I have got the pessaries from the chemist but are not really sure how long to use them for? If I start them 1dpo, do I only continue them on until about 12dpo, test if I am pregnant, then if not, stop them to bring on AF?

Also, the instructions with the pessaris say that they need to be used twice per day, I think my FS said use the pessaries at night.

If anyone has experience of using progesterone pessaries in the TWW, I would love some advice??

    Hi Jodsan,

I only just saw your post so sorry for not answering earlier. I have used prog pessaries in my last two TWW's. I have one 200mg in the morning and one 200mg at night. Just for a bit of extra prog support as tests have shown my levels to be on the lower side. I start them the night of my transfer - DPO2/3. They make me feel nauseous and they are messy. Just a tip - wear a panty liner and your cruddiest undies - they ruin your underwear. I think if you are pregnant you will continue to use them possibly up to week 12. If you are not pregnant you will stop using them and AF will arrive within two days.

Check with your doctor though - hopefully you've already got this sorted.

I really just wanted to wish you luck so best of luck and I hope you get your BFP.

Thank you so much infinity. My FS's receptionist eventually called me back and confirmed it was 200mg in the morning and 200mg in the evening. I was kinda hoping it was only once per day cos they cost me $170! She didn't tell me when to stop though, so I guess I'll do a test at about 13dpo and if negative stop them then.

I really hope you get your BFP soon

I'd call my FS before stopping. GL with them. They're messy, but worth it if they work!

Thanks heaps Juniper, thinking I might get a BT at 13dpo, then I will feel safe stopping. Thank god I have found somewhere to get the pessaries for only $90 for next month.

    Wishing you oodles of luck

Sounds like a good plan. Glad to hear you found some cheaper ones. I thought those others sounded pretty expensive. My clinic charges $90 for 15 days worth (2/day).
