Hi all. I'm a total newby who is just posting for the 1st time today (my first post was in a different thread; this is post #2), although I've been so grateful to have the privilege of all of your wisdom over the past few weeks as I've been lurking. My background is that I'm 38 and just found out I have low AMH (6.9), and DH has poor morphology (1%), which I guess explains why I've never been pregnant despite not using birth control since 2004! I had a lap/hyst 2 1/2 weeks ago, and, luckily, on the physical side everything looks good for me. We're now starting our first ICSI cycle, which is the first fertility treatment I've ever done (DH was not interested in taking the active approach until recently . . . grr).
Anyway, I just gave myself my first Puregon injection today. It wasn't bad at all. I'm just starting to get nervous because before I injected, I filled out my card listing the amount in the cartridge (600), the amount I was shooting up (275), and the amount left (325). Now I'm starting to get nervous as to whether I dialed 275 or, mistakenly, 325, when I shot up. I didn't start thinking about this until after I had removed the old needle. I'm guessing that I'm probably just pyching myself out thinking that I messed it up, but I'd like to check if possible. Do any of you know if it will mess up the cartridge if I try to turn the dial until it stops to see how much Puregon is left? Or do any of you know any other way to verify how much is left? Sorry for such a dumb question, but now I feel like I need to verify this so that I know if I messed up or not.
Thanks very much in advance for any help, and good luck to everyone!
You poor thing. I just went through my first round and I know how stressful it can be wanting to do everything right.
The best thing you can do to make yourself feel better is to call the clinic and get the nurse's advice. (I wouldn't play with the pen- and it should dial all the way to the end regardless of how much is in there because that's the way you correct a mis-dial)
I bet that you gave yourself the right dose after all and your mind is just plating tricks on you because of the stress. Even if you did give more than you were meant to , it's probably not as big a deal as you imagine. After all, your first round is hit and miss and even the FS's aren't sure what the best dose is yet.
Don't worry so much and don't be hard on yourself.
Good luck.
Maggie
Oh dear, I hate when I do things like that! I do it all the time with the iron, or car keys, or my nightly multivitamin (forgetting whether or not I have taken it).
I'm sorry I don't know how to tell how much is left, but (I hope I'm not giving you incorrect information) I do know that I always have more than the specified amount left in my cartridge, so tomorrow when you take your dose you would probably still have leftovers from the 275 even if you did use up 325 tonight, so it might be hard to tell!
Hopefully if you check tomorrow the nurses will tell you its all ok!
Good luck with your cycle! Hope everything goes well!
Just wanted to thank you both so much for the kind words. They made me feel a lot better. I've calmed down now, and am thinking that I probably dialed the right amount, but that even if I didn't, taking 50 extra units one day won't be the end of the world. (I'm too scared to call the nurses and tell them that I might have messed up. ) Maybe it will even kick start my cycle!
But thanks again for being so encouraging when I was feeling low. What a wonderful group of women on this board!

KitKat - I'm guessing that you have done everything right, so I'm glad that you are stressing less. Never be afraid of ringing the nurses - they have heard everything before - prob at least 100 times and are really supportive...dont think I have ever known one to get mad! They prob have a great laugh in the lunch room at some of the things we ask - but hey, they are paid to be there to help and they do the job they do because they love it - including supporting us all as we go through our journey!
