Cost of putting in ****ey seat?

We were going to buy a big 4wd, & I still would prefer to if we find one, but we've dropped the amount we want to spend on a car, so thinking a wagon with extra seats would be enough.

Has anyone out there put a ****ey seat in? Where would I have to have it done & about how much would it cost? Could DH put one in then have it inspected? FIL seems to think thats allowed, but I'd like to know for sure first.

I think (don't quote me on this though) that you have to get them professionally installed (dealership or mechanic) and then the car needs to checked by the transport authority in your state as the number of passengers the car can hold has changed. My MIL has one in her wagon but I think she bought the car like that.

Make sure that it's going to be suitable for your kids because I am pretty sure they have to be between four & seven to use a dic-kie seat.

think thats what we had and theres a hight limitation on them

Anyone know where I could find out? I thought it would be ok, coz I could just rearrange kids as they grow, but I don't know if you can use a booster with a ****ey seat or not, which changes things again.

check the website for your transport department - they should have the details on there, if not ring up and ask to speak to the modifications department, in some states the modifications need to be done/inspected by engineers for the mod plate to be put on. This is classified as a major modification because you are changing the amount of seating the car was built with.

Keep in mind that this is a different state so could work a bit differently. We had ours installed by our mechanic who is also a licenced with vicroads child restraint fitter. They contacted Holden (we have commodore wagon) and they quoted a genuine holden dic-kie seat which cost at least 2.5k so we got one from eBay for $500 (someone bought a wagon with one in and didn't want it...go figure we couldn't find one with the seat already in it ) and they then installed it for us. It cost us about $1200 all up.

DH found a couple of aftermarket seats too that we were close to getting. Nice ones that folded up to the sides. I'll ask if he still has bookmarks and will let you know if he does.

actually come to think of it i sold my car to my ex he took the seat out and wants to sell it

Wow, that much. DH did think they had to have an engineers certificate, but FIL was sure they didn't.
Will have to look til we find one with the seat already fitted, or go the mini van I guess.

When we bought our car we looked at how much it was to put in extra seats at the back, and it would have cost us around $2500. DH seems to think you would need to get it checked and a new road worthy done, as you'd be increasing the seat capacity.
