Nope. If it were me I would have actually said it might be best if they go home and we have a visit another day. I don't believe in the whole get them sick and it builds their immunity crap. My kids have had a lifetime of sickness thanks to people willing to share, and it hasn't prevented them from getting sick at all. Both my children have asthma and a simple cold can cause big problems for us. The thing people don't think about is others. And I don't mean you necessarily. But they don't know if you have a relative with cancer undergoing treatment, or a cousin with an immunity disease. Sharing colds doesn't make us stronger it just makes us stupid. /rant
I would have sent them home.
Most of my friends know not to come over if they are sick. I think it is rude.
Kids get sick enough just 'living' let alone bringing illness into your home.
I think that's just rude, no different than bringing a sick kid to playgroup and we all know how many vents there have been about that lately! Lol.
My said that stupid thing to me the other day when I told her we hadn't been going to playgroup because of parents that bring their sick kids and I don't want DD getting sick if I can prevent it...and she replies with oh but it will build her immunity...yeah and it will also give both of us sleepless nights and make us all miserable, I know what I'd prefer!
I refuse to visit friends when I'm sick. If it is some major event and I'm not 100% I check with those with kids first if it is ok if I'm there.
I've got the niggles of the cold that is going around at the moment (dosing myself up with medication etc - have the cougars trip next weekend), and as much as it is killing me not being able to spend time with my sister, she is in the middle of chemo and her immune system isn't up to the challenge of even the remotest chance I'll give her what I have (or don't have - dr doesn't think it is anything serious).
So, I agree with Rouge - sharing colds doesn't make us stronger, it just makes us stupid
On the immunity thing. With a cold that's actually not true. Given the amount of strains and the mutation that occurs it's practically impossible. Otherwise we'd have a vacc for the common cold, and we don't. Doctors I have spoken to don't believe that colds build immunity.
like cai said there are around 70 strains of the common cold! as you get older you get less colds but thats because youve been exposed to more (strains) not because youve built a better immunity!
if my kids are sick, we dont go, simple as that, like cai a simple cold (actually just a runny nose) for us ends with DD getting an ear infection.
Thanks to you all. i am glad that im not the only person not wanting their child to get sick. I am not the one to say no you can visit as your sick, but sometimes i wish i was!
Thanks again
