Bit of an overreaction there! I was sleeping over at my male bestie's house (in the same bed!) in Grade 3ish, no problem... Someone needs to get his head out of his bottom

I see no problem with it at all. I'd be more than happy to have DS's female friends sleep over or have him sleep there.
I never asked for boys to sleep over throughout primary school as I wasn't great friends with any boys (beside my cousins) but I was allowed to have my male friends sleep over in High School. They did sleep in the loungeroom which I totally agree with at that age but that guy's lost his marbles if he's objecting to a 5yr olds sleep over!

Stoopid. DD1 is determined to marry one of her best little friends who lives interstate. They've both been friends since babyhood. Every time they visit or we visit them DD1 and her little boy friend share a room. It's actually quite adorable to see how much the two of them love each other. I might stop the sleep overs in about five years lol but my guess is they'll probably stop without any need for my involvement.

As if gender matters at five!

I read this yesterday nodding my head going "tosser!!!" but then today I asked my BIL what his thoughts were (he's got an almost 4yo DD and 2yo DS) and he said he wouldn't be comfortable with it.

So there you go. Can some other people ask their DPs and get some other male perspectives? I'm curious now.

At this young age? I don't see a problem with it. As to when they get older, not sure what age you would have to get strict about it all?

Thankfully my DD1 is only 3 and we haven't encountered this yet

DH isn't here so I can't ask him. Wondering if maybe it is a daddy-daughter insecurity thing??

Or is BIL a tosser too? He's mostly pretty fab...

I just asked my DH too. He couldn't comprehend of any reason why this would be an issue.

Well, DP says he has no issue with it, so I wouldn't classify it as a daddy-daughter thing. In his words, "she's six, what do you think is going to happen?"

I just asked DH "When DD is 5, if her best friend is a boy could he sleep over?" He said yeah, but asked why I asked. I told him the story and he said "Well, maybe it's a mental thing? Like he thinks if she gets used to sleepovers with boys now, maybe she'll always think it's ok, and when do you suddenly draw the line that it's not ok, seeing as we're hearing all about kids growing up earlier."

Maybe he's just a bit paranoid about his little girl.

Ex would've been a bit wierd about it TBH, but he has told me that they were doing all sorts of things at 6 that I never even really knew about at that age.

My best friend was an over exposed child that did all sorts of things at a very young age also. Maybe its got to do with peoples past experiences.

TBH, for me & my girls, its the older males in the house I'd be wary of. DD1 is 10 has a 10 year old 'uncle' (genetically unrelated) & they have sleep overs.

When I was 14 I wanted to stay at a male friends house & our parents said no, coz they 'aren't ready for grandkids yet'!! We had no interest in each other what so ever & I was really upset that they could treat me/us like that.

Dp said depends on the friend but wouldn't have any issues with a male friend sleeping over until the start of high school.

Dp says the dad has to grow up and rolled his eyes!

I think it is a little weird too Astrolady!
i wouldnt be comfortable with my kids around that dad is he is thinking provocatively regarding children as well, big sign to me!

My daughter had a sleep over at our house for her 4th birthday (just a girl friend) althought we would have been happy for her little brother who was friends with DS to stay as well, but her parents thought he was a little young and would be upset.
We sent photos and skyped her friends parents through the night, and they came over for coffee in the morning.

i would have onlly let my children stay if i knew the parents and house well though

I just asked my ex (DD's father) and he is fine with it at this age. Quite often he stays at friends houses and my DD actually asks to sleep in with the boys (who are 2 and 4 years older than her)

I think the dad completely overreacted especially when he had been privvy to the planning
