    Yep a tosser.

We have boy/girl sleepovers every night in our house, with DD and our twin boys

Seriously though what does he think 5yr olds do?? I feel a bit sorry for the little girl as when she gets older she will probably rebel against what seems to be a very "over protective" father.

How did it go? Did you have to pick him up early?

I still have boy/girl sleep overs now with my male friends and I'm an old fart.

It is really sad that he is projecting adult concepts on to 5 year old children. My DD's best friend is a boy. They are both 8. She has slept at his place about three times, and he has slept over at our house twice. We don't have a problem with it at all.

Stoopid. DD1 is determined to marry one of her best little friends who lives interstate. They've both been friends since babyhood. Every time they visit or we visit them DD1 and her little boy friend share a room. It's actually quite adorable to see how much the two of them love each other. I might stop the sleep overs in about five years lol but my guess is they'll probably stop without any need for my involvement.

As if gender matters at five!

Wow complete tosser! Even if he wasn't comfortable with it, don't you think he would go home and check with his wife what was discussed in the first place? They are 5 FFS!
That's right, you may have asked if your child could stay over for some reason where you needed your little one to be looked after and he would have made you feel like your child would have been unwanted and unwelcome to stay the night. That alone is enough for me to think he's a tosser. I think boy girl sleep overs would be ok at any age... Perhaps teenagers could both sleep out in the lounge room but honestly what's the big deal? People have enough weird relationship boundaries as it is, I think nurturing a platonic relationship is important. Whilst I had plenty of girl friends at school and lots of sleep overs my best friend from the age of 5 was a boy. We actually went on holidays together as teenagers and it was fantastic! Friendship is friendship, it's that simple really.

I read this yesterday nodding my head going "tosser!!!" but then today I asked my BIL what his thoughts were (he's got an almost 4yo DD and 2yo DS) and he said he wouldn't be comfortable with it.

So there you go. Can some other people ask their DPs and get some other male perspectives? I'm curious now.

At this young age? I don't see a problem with it. As to when they get older, not sure what age you would have to get strict about it all?

Thankfully my DD1 is only 3 and we haven't encountered this yet

DH isn't here so I can't ask him. Wondering if maybe it is a daddy-daughter insecurity thing??

Or is BIL a tosser too? He's mostly pretty fab...

Well, DP says he has no issue with it, so I wouldn't classify it as a daddy-daughter thing. In his words, "she's six, what do you think is going to happen?"

DH would have no issues here at all.

I just asked my DH too. He couldn't comprehend of any reason why this would be an issue.

I just asked DH "When DD is 5, if her best friend is a boy could he sleep over?" He said yeah, but asked why I asked. I told him the story and he said "Well, maybe it's a mental thing? Like he thinks if she gets used to sleepovers with boys now, maybe she'll always think it's ok, and when do you suddenly draw the line that it's not ok, seeing as we're hearing all about kids growing up earlier."

Maybe he's just a bit paranoid about his little girl.

Ex would've been a bit wierd about it TBH, but he has told me that they were doing all sorts of things at 6 that I never even really knew about at that age.

My best friend was an over exposed child that did all sorts of things at a very young age also. Maybe its got to do with peoples past experiences.

TBH, for me & my girls, its the older males in the house I'd be wary of. DD1 is 10 has a 10 year old 'uncle' (genetically unrelated) & they have sleep overs.

When I was 14 I wanted to stay at a male friends house & our parents said no, coz they 'aren't ready for grandkids yet'!! We had no interest in each other what so ever & I was really upset that they could treat me/us like that.
