    Question ET and brandy/whiskey

Hi ladies, I have a question regarding transfer and whiskey/brandy. I have been offered a shot of brandy & lemonade after two of my IVF ETs. The first time I thought they must be crazy; after all, I had just had my first embryo implanted and they wanted to give me alcohol. The second time I had done some reading about brandy relaxing the walls of the uterus to assist with impantation and transfer, so I had some after the transfer.

Here's my question: have any other ladies been offered brandy and was it always after the transfer had taken place? I was thinking if it is to be effective, shouldn't you imbibe the brandy before the transfer?

    Many thanks!

    Hey,

I had brandy after my transfer (at 7.30am on a saturday morning).
    Got my BFP.

I had no idea why they were giving me it and I didn't ask. I was more than happy to have a wee booze when DH was offered a cup of tea

In my clinic though, I think that this is a relatively new thing as one of my mates had her ET 10 months before me and there was no brandy for her.

    Hugs and good luck,
    Sue xxx

    Wow

Thats the most random thing I have heard in a long time...and I like it.
I wonder if its too late to take it now, probably given my BT for preg. is tomorrow. Oh well, hopefully I might get to sniff the cork to celebrate

I've always been offered a brandy straight after ET. It surprised me so much the first time that I didn't know what to do and said no. I've had the brandy every time after that (another 3 transfers). I figured there would have to be a scientific reason behind it.

Thanks for your replies, ladies. I find it so interesting that different clinics do different things. I'm QFG Brisbane. Is the alcohol just a Queensland thing? Are we all wee alcos here in Queensland?

Venus - Good luck for today! Fingers and toes crossed, and let us know how you get on.
