My HSG didn't get done today. Apparently I was too far out of the window of "opportunity". The nurse was at best an ass about it, she got her back up about my question. What on earth is this so called window of opportunity and why it is imperative we get it done then. She eventually got the doctor who explained it to us. This was never communicated to DH and me before hand. I asked them to ring our FS and he agreed with the doctor.
My AF isn't regular and the doctor asked them to fit me in next time. For me to ring them 1st day of AF and they will book me in day 6,7 or 8. Which helps. But Im still a bit cross that someone didn't explain to us what the rules and window of opportunity.
So a 2 hour round trip wasted, day off work without pay, DH half a day without pay. All for nothing!!
And they got cross at me because when I had my Ultrasound I didn't have enough fluid in the bladder, and did a pelvic ultrasound instead. Not my fault the fluid didn't make it to my bladder by the time they called me in.
I'm sorry to hear that. The place I went to wouldn't do them after day 10 of a cycle and made this clear when I called to book in (although I already knew it needed to be between AF and O).
They can't do it during AF or after O because the dye could flush any remaining lining (during AF) or egg/embryo (after O) out through the tubes into the abdomen.
The doctor has told me next time Im to ring up the day of my AF arrival and they will fit me in day 6, day 7 or day 8. The only problem is I might be working nightshift those days.
The information of when it NEEDED to be done was never ever communicated to me. Well not till I got there, then the nurse told us. This is indicative of a country NSW hospital. I felt like crying.
Yet another stumbling block to starting IVF and our family. Yet another wait. It must feel like a huge waiting game to everyone doing IVF.
How annoying! I would be crossed too under the circumstance. Such a waste of time and of course another month of waiting! I feel for you!
Patience has never been my best virtue and I have to say now after TTC for 5 years, I am making a lot of progress in that area and I think I deserve a medal now. Try not to work yourself up and go with the flow...I hope it will go smoothly for the next round.
I booked in for another HSG to be done this monday. Guess what. They have cancelled on me. They said they are short staffed. They said the radiologist isn't there when my husband called them. Each time a different answer. I actually think Im getting shafted for a private patient. Im sorry to anyone out there with private insurance.
My FS said it should be done day 6,7, or 8 nothing pass day 10. They cancelled monday and wanted to book me in day 14. They say it can be done then. When I have been told before I couldnt do it day 14 because its out of the window of opportunity. Well thats what they told me last time I went for the HSG.
I would like to know if anyone knows of a place in sydney that does them or a place in Canberra. Im sick of getting stuffed around by orange hospital that has no idea what its doing.
In orange hospital we keep getting a different answer depending on who we talk to or whom is doing the talking me or my husband. Im sooooooooooooooo cross!!!!!!!!!!
This is the only barrier I have in starting IVF. This is the only test we are waiting on. How dare they muck about my chance of starting IVF.
I'd be pretty furious too. Sorry I don't have any answers for you. I really hope you can find a satisfactory solution quickly.
This may not be appropriate, but is it worth going to the hospital and trying to sort it out in person rather than by phone since that's how you were told it couldn't be done last time?
I had my HSG done today. It was going to get cancelled again, but I rang up the director of the hospital who got in contact with the head of radiology.
They were going to cancel a few days ago and we were told there wasn't a radiologist available. When i got in contact with the head of radiology there was a radiologist but he didnt like doing HSG's. Luckily the head of radiology has been through IVF with his wife so understood the pressures and why we were so upset of having it cancelled again. He thought laterally and got the Obsetrics lady to come put the tube in and then the radiologist did his thing.
Funny thing is they made me do a preg test. Crickey if I could get pregnant through my husband I wouldnt have been there in the first place. It is my husband who can't get me preg. I have been preg with previous partner. So as far as I know fallopian tubes don't just block all of a sudden. But anyways the HSG confirmed what I know fallopian tubes both clear.
May I ask did anyone else have a huge amount of pain? It bloomin well hurt!!!!
Did anyone have any form of pain relief offered to them??
Wild horses wouldn't get me to do that test ever again!!!

Wow, I am glad that you got it done in the end but what a debacle! You poor thing!
As for the pain, I have to say it is the worst procedure I have EVER had done. They gave me IV pethedine so of course I was off my face after that thank goodness!
Glad to hear your tubes are clear and you are on the other side of that darn procedure!
hi ladies i'm new to posting i had this done last week i have pcos and my fs gat me to do this test all showed up clear but man did it hurt and after i was told i should have and panadol b4 i went in and for the rest of the day i was sore and had a small bit of bleeding but cant wait to start fsh next month
Im glad Im not the only one who experienced pain. On a scale of one to ten. One being no pain and 10 being the worst pain you've ever experienced. I would have given it a 10/10!
yes Im a registered nurse myself that explains the pain scale.
Im hoping the EPU and Et isn't as painful. Its not right making someone experience that level of pain. I think that the HSG should be done under sedation or GA.
