Kel This is such a terrible rollercoaster - really sorry you have to go through this. Agree with WTH - if things go pear shaped and I am keeping everything crossed they are not - the main thing is you have done a cycle and had a blastie to transfer - you will be able to do it again, you are still young. Look after yourself.
If AF does not come perhaps consider going for an early BT even tomorrow so that at least you know what's going on.
WTH: What I am worried about are my symptons before I took the Pregnyl but you're making me feel better. I actualy took 1500 of Pregnyl so that's quite a hit and you're making total sense - I just really don't want to get my hopes up, quite calm at the moment but think it will be devastating actually allowing myself to hope it works and getting those hopes crushed.
About DHEA I am having both those side effects on 50mg - Sorry I have no idea about hormones - are you saying it get's worse once taking Pregnyl? That would make me feel better since I actually took Pregnyl already during my cycle so it might have partly been responsible.
Have called the clinc and moved BT to Wednesday from Thursday - just doing a bit of damage control as DP is around on Wednesday but will have to go travelling Thursday to Saturday so whatever happens I'll have him around.
Kel - I'm so sorry, it's incredibly disappointing - but as the other girls said - you came so close and it will happen for you - you have age on your side, and you've learned you can produce a healthy blastie.
Sara - I think the DHEA is already making my skin oily - I noticed today in the afternoon that I had this shin on my face, and I have a number of pimples on my forehead...not the norm for me. But it's not enough to make me stop the DHEA and, as I mentioned, I even up-ed it to 40 mg/day. If I start growing hair on my face & losing it on my head...I'll quit
Hi WTH and WLAB...and anyone else who is out there.
Sara - I have read the DHEA can cause oily skin and even temporary hair-thinning, but that fortunately did not happen in my case. I was only on it for just over two months so maybe things like this may have happened over time. The Pregnyl (HCG) makes your body think it is pregnant, so it increases your progesterone levels (luteal phase support). You may know people take prog. pessaries or crinone for the same reason. Anyway, this is definitely what caused a bit of an increase in hair growth (faster under the armpits, the odd surprise on my face ). It is the same hormone which causes the odd pimple before AF each month. You may already know this, but just wanted to clarify Glad you have moved your BT to Wednesday. I would rather know sooner and with the support of my partner, too. Good luck
Buliej - sounds like you are having a good strong reaction to the DHEA I am glad you are giving it a go as like Sara, according to my (limited) reading you are the perfect candidate for it. I really hope it brings you success
Kel - hope things are looking brighter for you today? xx
Cuddlepie, WLAB, Lisa and anyone on our supporter's sideline
Julie and Sara - just to let you know that I am on 75mg of DHEA - the recommended dose in the States - if you can tolerate. Some women can't do it for some reason. I actually find it gives me more energy - quite like the stuff. I was recommended to take it 2x a day so I take 50mg in the morning and 25 at night.
But do agree with Julie - definately makes my skin more greasy, nothing that a quick tissue wipe cleans up...the oil ain't great for the pimple situation, although mine certainly calmed down after a couple of months..but the oil is actually great for the skin.
WTH - just want to say that you are an incredible mine of such interesting info..thanks bud!!
Sara - just to let u know how strong that Pregnyl is..I took my last dose last Saturday night. I went for a BT yesterday lunchtime (Friday). My HCG was 6.7 - I know that I wasn't PG - but 6 days later and still in my system. I actually went to get my FSH - but was day 1 and waaaay to low so am going back again tomorrow day 3.
Kel - I am so sorry.. I also got AF yesterday and it all just sucks.
Kel - Oh I hope AF didn't fully rear her ugly head. I had horrendous cramping prior to getting my BFP. WAS sure I was out as I have been pg plenty of times before without cramping that bad. Maybe still hope yet?
Sara - don't you give up hope yet either. Remember, all during your cycle you were on stim meds etc = feeling blah. Then pregnyl trigger = blah for at least 7-10days, then you had pregnyl booster = blah for another 5-6 days. Just because you are feeling better doesn't = not preg. Your "true" HCG from a pg would take awhile to get up to "blah" levels IYKWIM. How many dpo are you now? If BT on Wed then maybe start testing Mon?
Lulu - so sorry AF arrived for you. I sooooo want to see you get the success you deserve
Julie - You are very brave in the face of such sad times. I pray the DHEA and possibly a change in FS/clinic will do the trick for you
Due to only recently getting in contact with my birth father and discovering he has haemephillia (thank goodness we found this out before I got pregnant!) we are looking at PGD hopefully asap as I don't want to be an older mother (am 31).
Can anyone give me more info on the sucess rates of this? We are looking to make an appointment at Sydney ivf with someone to discuss how this works as my husband and I are very new to this. We've already discussed with a genetic counsellor who basically spelled out our options. Its all very new and very confusing. I never thought I'd have to make this kind of choice.
Frustrating how something we all take for granted can turn on its head. I grew up just expecting I'd have a family, and when I got married I thought it was a done deal. After all, having kids is part of life's "package". I know you must be feeling very worried about the road ahead I also went through SIVF, though in my situation I used PGD to bypass most likely age-related chromosonal issues. I check the SIVF website and they do indeed advertise they have developed tests for haemophilia A and haemophilia B.
The great news is, you are not seeking IVF for infertility problems. At your age you most likely still have an abundance of eggs, which is a great start for PGD Also, PGD has a high success rate after transfer - comparatively above that of standard IVF. This is partly because some people who do PGD do not have infertility issues, such as implantation problems.
In my experience, SIVF were excellent - they really know this stuff inside-out. It all started with a phone call. I spoke to a PGD nurse co-ordinator who answered my myriad questions (some clever, some not so clever). She explained the whole process to me. Generally, you get a referral from your GP to a SIVF Fertility Specialist. I then made appointments with the Kent St Clinic where I met with a SIVF PGD nurse co-ordinator, a counciller and PGD scientist. During the latter meeting I quizzed the PGD scientist about success rates and they emailed me the most up-to-date figures (more current and more detail than those posted on the SIVF website).
I will be honest and say I did find the IVF process very stressful and it did not work for me first-time. But the potential reward obviously outweighs it all.
I wish you all the best, Jo. Hope this has been of help to you.
Jo1978-i hav just started with PGD at SIVF as my DH and i are carrier's of a genetic condition they have been fantastic so far and have rushed a lot of the work up so they can get the gene testing under way to develope our probe in time so we can hopefully get to ET in nov they have even organised our daughter's DNA sample's to be sent from S.A. to them and sent us DNA kit's and blood request's in the mail they have rang the RNS and chased up all of our daughter's and our test result's to hurry thing's along i can not fault them give them a ring and i hope you will be on your PGD journey with us soon.
Well in the mean time I've been to the doc and picked up the pill while we consider our options. I've still got to go through a number of testing to find out if my birth father is really my birth father! Doesn't help he lives in NZ. I've sent off an email with a consent form to him to access his records so that when I go get tested for the defective gene they know what they're looking for
