    Default OHSS question

Just a quick question. i was told yesterday that i have developed mild OHSS which i was told also probably means i am pregant as it is 11 days past transfer. If i am pregnant how l;ong can i expect it to last, (cant believe mild OHSS feels this bad, what must full blown OHSS feels like). Anyway if it does ease off or go away over the next few days does that mean im not pregnant or going to MC? Did POAS today and got a postive as well. Thanks

Scooby, I'm told it will last until you are 10-12 weeks and the placenta takes over in terms of hormone production rather than your ovaries. Make sure you rest heaps and keep fluids up. Same thing happened to me, and you do freak out a bit when you days where you feel less OHSS-ish. I don't know what will happen in terms of OHSS and miscarriage, whether it makes it more likely or less likely... and I'm kinda scared to do too much investigation.

    Hey BW
You come to my rescue again, didnt realise you got a BFP, thats great news, congrats and i totally understand wanting to contain the excitement, will you have a scan soon?
Found out my HCG was about 150 today which is good according to the nurses, but that ever looming fear just hangs around and i find i cant even bring myself to get a little excited. hopefully that day will come soon. No idont think it bears investigating either i think we stay positive But i must admit and i dont want to winge too much as i feel so privlidged to get my BFP, but OHSS is really not nice and ifeel for you that you have been through this so often. I woke up last night finding it difficult to breathe and breaking out in cold sweats, didnt get to vomit but came very close, thought i was going to hospital at 4am this morning. Any ways now its subsided some what and im worried about why it has subsided
Thanks again BW i really hope you are keeping well and not getting too sick of ginger biscuits.

Yes, very cautiously and quietly excited and very hopeful, but also completely paranoid and scared at this point in time, too. I'm finding that this time the OHSS isn't as bad as the first two cases... they were hell. I've had nights where breathing has been hard - it always seems to follow the days where I've done way too much. This is why resting is so important. Sounds like you're a bit worse off than me - do not be afraid to go to hospital if it gets that bad. I know I'm fine because my weight is still normal, I'm peeing frequently (oh boy, am I peeing frequently!) so I know that what's going in is coming out. If you get too bloated, your weight increases dramatically or the breathing difficulties become too much - go straight to hospital. Meanwhile, the only other thing that I can suggest is propping yourself up with lots of pillows. I'm getting better now, but the first week after pregnancy was confirmed was the worst and it hurt way too much to lay flat. If I've had a good day, I can usually even manage to spend some time laying on my side, but they are few and far between.

Hang in there, and I wish you a comforting return of OHSS symptoms along with hellish morning sickness (I've got plenty to share), and we can moan and grumble and gripe at each other about how horrible it is, and yet how thankful we are that we have this to go through.

    Take care, Scooby.

    Hi Scooby,

Congrat's on your BFP! I did suffer with extreme OHSS late 2006 and was in hospital for over a month and spent 1 week in ICU, with tubes in my stomach and neck - it really sucked as all of my embies had to be frozen. I'm now on the TWW and have my BT in 2 days.

I had lots of fluid and protein during my OHSS - this really helps.

I hope all goes well for you - stay positive!

    Default Help!

Hi everyone, I am 35 years. I just underwent my third IVF cycle in Germany. Hyperstimulated terribly, 22 eggs retrieved, 11 fertilised, max 3 emryos (thats the law in Germany) tranferred in May, 8 frozen. On day 12 started bleeding and my period came. I was so shocked. Waiting for the doctor to Ok my next transfer. I am so tired now but trying hard not to give up!

    Default OHSS

    Hi Everyone

As i mentioned before i used to do ultrasound for an IVF centre and studies found that women with OHSS chances of being pregnant increases from 54% after transfer to around 86% (i think), the person that mentioned that it will remain until the placenta takes over is quite correct but i have not heard anything about lesser symptoms of OHSS leading to miscarriage. Im so glad to hear that some of you have had positive tests, my husband and i are about to start our first cycle and im scared of what it will be like to be pregnant as i have never fallen. Anyway seeing the specialist again in less than a week and then hopefully we can get started.
