I am really new (and I mean really new) to this forum thing. I am currently with life fertility in brisbane and on my third cycle of IUI.
I am needing help. I know this will be long winded but I am hoping someone out there may help me put my mind at rest or at least help me stop crying for a while.
My partner and I have been trying since May 2006 after coming of depo injection. I knew I had PCOS so was on Clomid for 12 months with not even a smidgen of change to my cycle. still up and down and never regulated. Partner had 2 semen analysis with QML only to give us conflicting answers -both of which were bad news.
After suffering with side effects from Clomid gone off it for 6 months. To our relief fell pregnant in December 2008 but I found out on the Monday and miscarried on the Saturday after my HCG was 350 on first test then only went to 390 and I lost it.
Apparantly QE II Hospital in Brisbane said I didnt require a D&C as I was only about 4 weeks so waited until end of January to get my period again. Came back very different to I have ever had it before and with a vengence. My cycles were long and periods were heavy andafter a scan I found out that I was ovulating on around day 21.
After dicussion with a friend I did every test imaginable inc histosalpingogram and went and saw Dr Sterling. Vert confident specialist and tested partners sperm ... referred to it as "the mother load" and started me on 50 units of puregon FSH on my day 12 as scan showed that was little to no folicles.
Has insemination with partners sperm that was relatively good did everything that I was supposed to but no avail - FIRST ATTEMPT FAIL. Dr had all the confidence so second time round I requested I wanted a higher dose. Upped my dose to 50 units "+ 2 clicks" and agin did everything I was supposed to. Had scan 4 days before and wasnt groeing fast enough so bumped me up to 100 units. But this time again - SECOND ATTEMPT FAILED.
I am now on my third attempt and I am hoping that it works this time. I started on 75 for 2 days and now up to 100 units. had scan today on day 5 and still corpus luteum there.
Is there anyone that has either done this or has had success on IUI treatments with puregon or life fertility?? I am an emotional wreck and am looking for some hope. I am at the end of a very quickly fraying rope. I have read a lot of these forums and feel the pain and frustration that others are also feeling
I wish I knew the perfect words to say. I'm so sorry to hear that you've had such a difficult journey. I can totally understand you feeling at the end of your tether.
The only reassurance I can offer is that I have seen many people succeed with injects+IUI. Try not to get too down about not succeeding immediately. When you consider that, at best, you've got a 20% chance of success with an IUI it's not unreasonable to need a few attempts at it. We tried it 6 times before changing to IVF.
Also, I've heard many good things about Dr Sterling. I have a friend who is currently pg after doing an IVF cycle with him and she was very happy with him (even when earlier cycles failed). The idea of changing Drs has been on my mind lately (after 18 months with our FS without success) and he is one of the ones I would consider changing too.
I know that doesn't address all your concerns, but I hope it helps in some small way.
DH and I went through the ringer TTC from feb 2005 to Sept last year using clomid, IUI and IVF - with five angel babies in there. we ended up falling pregnant on our seventh IUI cycle last year. the first two were cancelled due to lack of response (which sounds similar to what is happening with you) - the other five resulted in three pregnancies, with two very early losses. with an early loss such as yours, there is no need for a d&c, but the hormonal fluctuations can cause your following AF to be heavier and more painful
FWIW - the start of assisted conception is very much about deciphering how your body responds - the last thing they want to do, especially with PCOS, is pump too much into you in regards to the meds - with PCOS the risks of over stimulating and developing ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome is very high (and if you get it, it's nasty!). of those seven IUI cycles, i was on a different dosage of puregon each time. the last cycle, we also added accupuncture and it appears to have helped as our little IUI miracle girl was born a bit over 6weeks ago
thank you so much for your replys ... i am hoping for 3rd time lucky as my DH is going through the ringer worst than I am. All of the information I have read bot all here in the forums and internet etc says I will have to wait.
Thank you again its nice to see success on IUI yay good luck with everything.
Will keep everyone informed ... on day 6 today so a little way to go.
