Windy/Gassy after EPU - is that normal?

    Hi there,

I had my epu on Monday and since then i have had horrible gas/wind and constipation pains. Is this normal? Im so bloated it feels a bit excessive to me considering all they did was pick up eggs!! I have had anaesthetics before and never had problems lik this.

Anyone know why it happens and does everyone get it? I have taken up until today off work and plan to go in tomorrow but im embarrassed that workmates will here my gassy belly amongst other things...

I hope im not the only one!

Yes, it's fairly normal. I believe they pump some gas into the abdomen in order to have better access to the ovaries.

However, if you have excessive bloating, keep an eye on your weight. If you find that you're suddenly weighing more than normal, it means the bloating is from fluid, not gas, and you are more than likely dealing with OHSS. Not a fun thing by anyone's imagination! I found that I was feeling much better after 2-3 days with this EPU, but it was more like 3 and 4 weeks after my first two egg collections when I did have OHSS.

BW they only got 11 eggs, could i still get it, maybe its just the mild symptoms? Today i felt awful and had diarrhea which ive read can be one of the symptoms.

Jules, how long since transfer? I wouldn't necessarily expect to get OHSS with 11 eggs collected, but I think it depends more on hormone levels than egg numbers. It's entirely possible that it could be OHSS setting in a bit later as the HCG levels in early pregnancy make it worse.

Hi Scooby! I hadn't realised you got to transfer - well done! I'm glad you beat the dreaded OHSS in the end!
