Anyone here 42 and over -and successful ??

I guess in a way really its all in the lap of the gods for all of us. Some women smoke, drink do drugs and fall preg at the drop of a hat , others are super fit and healthy and never fall preg i guess there is no easy answer to it - some people would say to me - "well maybe you are not suppossed to have kids" my answer is well so i guess that druggie over there with kids was meant to be a mum? Satya how on earth did you make your own detergent - i haven't gone that far yet but hey who knows i'm just about willing to try anything - if the doctor told me to stand on one leg and make funny noises i'd do it ! Lets just hope there is good vibes out there for all of us.

To make your own laundry detergent you get the old fashioned kind of laundry soap - it's usually yellow - I think it might be called sunlight soap. You get it in the same aisle of the supermarket that you get all the other laundry things. You must then grate one cake of it & put it into an old 2 litre detergent bottle & fill with warm water. If you put the cap on and leave it overnight then shake it you will end up with laundry liquid.

I found it worked as well as the commercial ones & it was far cheaper. The grating is a bit of a pain though. I was avoiding chemicals as I was having problems with asthma and rashes at the time. Luckily I don't have either anymore so I don't go to those extremes anymore.

Thanks for the recipe - always have good intentions to do these things but never seem to find the time or should i say i do get lazy about it. Anyone with any tips on oven cleaning, have been told to stay away from oven cleaners - highly toxic - especially if pregnant or TTC - have been known to cause m/c. Hate cleaning the oven - its actually my pet hate - but if anyone has an easy way would love to hear it.

I have a recipe that completely cleans the oven without you coming near dangerous chemicals.

First you introduce DH to the oven and the oven cleaner
Second, you got out for a long relaxing walk/swim/gossip with friends.
When you come home it's all done - like magic, only better.

Hi, i don't have time to read all the posts sorry, but i wanted to tell you that my mum was 43 when she had me, and DP's youngest bother came when his mum was 42. Also my neighbour in Perth (UK, not Aus) had her 1st age 41. It can happen, don't give up hope.

Hi! Just wanted to say that my mum had my little brother when she was 42, it was her 6th and last child and I just remember she was so happy and glowing being pregnant. I don't think 42 is too old at all. Just wanted to wish you good luck:hug:, there are lots of women out there having babies in their 40's.

Thank god i found you girls! I never admit to being 40 (turned it in Jan this year) cause this site seems to be full of younger women (they even have a thread LOL) I am seriously thinking about #4 but feel too old- not in myself just the minds of others but you guys make me feel "normal" LOL

We should ask for an "older mums" section - like the 'younger mums' have!!!!

Especially as older mums suffer different problems/threats/predjudices - and it's nice to have some support and encouragement.

i am going to show everyone that over 40 is not to old, i also lookafter other peoples children , they are 4 months and 8 months and a 3 year old, i really love children and i am not ready to stop yet.

My husband said he had a dream the other night that I got pregnant every year - and we had heaps of kids!!! I have 'suffered' with both of my pregnancy (and I don't enjoy being pregnant) - so I told him that he was definately "dreamin'!!!" It's alright for him - he gets to do the easy part of conception!

Must admit though - he has put in a LOT of "daddy" hours recently since I've been so sick. It is so good to watch him and shaun together. It's like they are joined at the hip.

I never understand why people feel they have the right to try to tell you what you should do with your life. I had AP today and Margaret the AP keeps saying one more month and it'll happen etc and today I just burst into tears- how many more months will it take- I've been ttc for 3 years and 7 months already now with 4 m/c. I am sick of the whole thing!!

This is torture, I imagine myself being pg when I'm due to have AF and she's a few days late... and then get very low when she arrives.

We need our own section,I was on a thread before where women were getting pg very easily and BFP all round...not too good for the self esteem!

I know what you mean Jo. I try not to read the pg announcement ones much as I read one recently that said I don't know how I am, he just looked at me. With 9.5 years TTC (only 1 year with DF) and my age going against me reading that is kind of hard to take.... not her fault of course, some ladies are just very fertile and don't realise how hard it is for others and how upsetting a comment like that can be to us.

Seems there is alot of us and the over 40's keeps growing - welcome girls - good luck to both of you TTC and i hope you are successful sooner rather than later - never think we are too old it just seems to be other people out there - but we will not let there negative attitudes get us down - now i feel there is an army of us!

I know how frustrating this all is - pls be kind to yourself - i also think we should have our own thread for the 0ver 40's as our issues are a little different from the young ones -not to say ours is anymore important its just a little different with age against you etc and all the negative comments we get. Satya is right it is very hard to read about all the preg happening for the younger ones and its fantastic for them - just wish i had a magic answer for you and the rest of us . How are you feeling today? Are you feeling a bit brighter or is that a stupid question? Thinking of you girls and sending you some positive vibes - hope it helps a little.

Another day gone, wow that book sounds like the book i am reading one at the moment called older mothers, conception,pregnancy and birth after 35 is interesting reading. Waiting a few more days till i test.

Hi everyone, I have to say I'm afraid of everything at this point in time. I'm afraid of being preg because I worry I will lose the baby. I hate the waiting from ovualtion till AF arrives because I am so obsessed and according to my family I'm like the she devil herself., and I did'nt even notice until I got told. I afraid to hope I'm preg because the let down is so hard to take. I worry that I'm not making the most of my life, and my babies are growing so fast that I'm missing so much because I'm so preoccupied and stressed with hoping to be preg and then losing the baby. And last but not least I'm worried I won't know when to stop. When is enough, enough!!

Sorry girls my last post is so depressing, I hope I have'nt stood on anyones toes. I guess I just feel like this is the only place you can really say how you feel and other people are going to get it!! Next post will be more cheerful.

I know what you mean. I try sooooo hard all the time to be positive and it gets really exhausting - my whole life is consumed by this and im starting to think i am wishing on a star - im starting to think this whole thing is a waste of time - but then theres this little voice in my head that says keep going. When do we know when to stop - good question i guess we will just know. If were up to the doctors it would have stopped ages ago but im not one to listen to statistics i do believe in miracles i just don't know whether im worthy of a miracle at times. I'm afraid of a life without children - even though i don't know what its like with them - im afraid to live childless - does that make sense and i don't know what im afraid of all i know is it scares me. Pam you are not being depressing this is just how we feel at times and sometimes you just need to get it out. We all have good and bad days but when you have been trying so long you start to have more bad days than good and its just so much work to keep positive - but what i have learnt from this whole process is that i am stronger than i thought.

Pam- you sound JUST like me exactly- I'm relieved to know others feel this way as well. Lissie, I am also not ready to quit although at my darkest moments I think- what hope is there, 6 m/c and 3 yrs 7 months of trying and failing. However, I would still prefer hope over no hope and if I quit, I have no hope.

One thing girls at least we still have our sense of humor, i guess you have to otherwise everything would look alittle bleek. My husband and i laugh about that if we do become parents how old we will be when they turn 21 etc Dh just hopes he makes their 18th b'day, my hubby will be 50 in november EEK!!! I married to an old man!!! when you are in your 40s it doesn't sound so bad but then 50 - oh well i love him to bits and thats all that matters. Gotta get ready for work now - work in the afternoons early evenings for a Chiropractor - at least it keeps my mind on other things for 5-7hours a day- i call it my sanity break.

50 is not old!! My cousin is 53 and looks and acts like a 30 year old, I don't consider anyone old until about 75 plus. I don't care what age I'll be when I have a baby;) my mum had us young but she always acted old so age is a figure only to me!

Hi girls, my DH never thought he was ever going to have children, he was in a long term relationship with someone who did'nt want any, as it turned out she left and went on to have children with someone else. Can you imagine how you would feel after that? All those years would feel like a waste. But we have 2 beautiful kids and he is the best Daddy in the world, age is just a number, he does'nt look his age and certainly does'nt act it. I think he is making the most of it. I just hope they are not embarrased of us as we get older. People are suprised when they find out how old we are, so I hope the kids are keeping us younger. It's either that, or they don't expect people our age to be having them.

Austrajoey, how many kids do you have and what made you want to go back?

Lissie you seem such a great person, I hope you get your miracle, if you ask me you deserve it. I understand about being afraid of living without children because I know how precious they are,I can't imagine my life without them. I just wish DH and I had got our act together earlier who knows how many we may have had. Certainly we are fighting an uphill battle now, but we've got the fighting spirit.
Yesterday on Oprah they had a senators wife on. They lost an older child in an accident, they said they did'nt want to replace the child but it made them feel the need for more children. She went on to have 2 more children one at age 48 and the next at 50. So it certainly is possible.
Has anyone thought about adoption? We looked into overseas programs briefly, but decided to keep on this course for a while.
Its's funny really I think about you BB girls from time to time through the day, and hope I can pass on something to help make the journey easier.

Sorry:doh: Austrajoey just seen you signature, now I know how many kiddies you have. Did you think you had finished after no 3 or you always knew you wanted more?:D

I always wanted 6 but DH negotiated me down to 4,I married at almost 30 but I had 2 m/c before I had any kids which set me back a few years, then had 3 and assumed I'd have the last one easily. I got pg right away at almost 39 y o but m/c at 9 weeks. Then I spent almost 6 months ttc and nothing, started having tests done , found and removed a polyp, started ttc again, with AP, got pg at 41, m/c, started Vitex, and AP, got pg, m/c, started Chinese herbs and AP, got pg again, m/c at just 42. Went onto Sharkeys formulas unfortunately- cycles got very mixed up, now still ttc and regulate them with AP, Chinese Herbs, and Vitex and hoping for a BFP that sticks.

I am very happy with what I have but the MMC does something to you, I feel more compelled to ttc than ever.

I am not happy today AF turned up, lucky i have a app 21 june at the hos, something must be wrong.How is everyone else doing.

we have thought alot about adoption - however my husbands age plays a huge part - alot of countries especially Australia will not even look at you when your husband is over 45 - they say he is the main bread winner blah blah blah blah blah! Also hugely expensive - but then again if i added up how much we have spent on IVF we could possible have a couple of adopted kids by now. I too wish we had of started IVF much sooner - but life gets in the way sometimes, broken marriages in early thirties, then nursing my dad and auntie at the same time both of them had terminal lung cancer- moving states etc etc etc - also my DH at first did not want any kids, he has two by previous marriage and did not want anymore - i waited till he came around (long time) and now he is in 110% but feel sometimes its all just bad timing with our ages etc. Hey but who knows we could get lucky and whilst there is the slightest bit of hope I'm in for the long haul - and like i said before I might just get one of those donor embies - donor embies usually come from a much younger couple and its like adoption in my eyes but just one step closer. The world is full of surprises and i just know if we all try hard enough and keep at it it will all pay off ( trying to use positive thinking here) i really do beleive that if you believe it can happen it usually does - eventually. I too don't look at us as old old but you know what its like when you go the doctors and they give you all that negative talk about age blah blah blah - you know we all know what we are up against - we don't need people with negative vibes especially doctors - what we need is inspiration and strength - anyway long post i know - off to Coff Harbour to pick up IVF drugs etc and then off to the dentist EEK! Hate the dentist but must be done before IVF cycle begins next week- have a really good day girls and i will be thinking of all of you.:hello:

Quick post ladies. I'm 9DPO and have had two nights of having to get up to wee and spent half my day yesterday in the loo. I'm hoping this is a good sign, not just that I've been drinking too much water to ease my cold.

Lissie- I need to get Root Canal work done and am putting it off but really should sort it out soon:(
Satya- I hope the bladder sign is a BFP in the future!

I saw a Dr for AP today and he was very positive and seemed certain I'd still get pg etc.
