Yep, the detox is a great excuse. Recovering from gastro is a goodie.
Hello,
Ok, I need something to make me smile. Being in the TWW and being advised not to: drink, have coffee/tea/cola, no yummy cheeses or cold meats, oh and thats right dont eat takeout from food courts (I think fresh made salad sandwiches with bottled water may be acceptable food choice when eating out, and popcorn is also ok) - what excuses have people come up with when not wanting to enlighten people that they may be pg??
Any ideas greatfully recieved![]()

The detox is a good thing, but basically people just don't ask i find. If its to do with drinking i just say that im on anti biotic or something, if its food choices i say i'm trying to be healthy. But the people i generally go out with all know what we are doing - we are open books - i find it easier as all my friends and family are so so suportive and encouraging. Good luck farmgirl.
i think the detox is a great option - i've used the "recovering from gastro" line so many times...
most people i'd go out with know we're ttc - and i've just said that i'll eat as if pg at all times, from a health perspective!
it was a novelty eating soft serve ice cream today for the first time in 18 months!
Hehe this thread made me smileI'm taking notes!
Antibiotics is a good one!!
"womens things" shuts everyone up, even women!! LOL
I was thinking of starting just this thread! I have a hens night this weekend. I just know that everyone's going to pick up on it. Isn't it tough that you should eat/drink as if pregnant even if you're not!? I think I'm going to be ~12 DPO then, so in an ideal world I'll get a BFP that morning and it won't be for nothing!
Unfortunately the rumour is out re our TTC, so I might just tell the truth. Alternatively I may go the antibiotics route. I have done that geniunely in the last year anyway. I told the story of a friend who ended up throwing up in the gutter after one ****tail on antibiotics, and that seemed to shut people up. If they ask what the antibiotics are for (so people are so damn nosey!) say you've got a UTI.
I've got a friend who's told me she won't be drinking at the hens night because she's having an op tomorrow for her endometriosis, so I guess you could use that sort of excuse... it's a bit extreme though!
I went to a 30th on the weekend and drove, so that got me past the no drinking questions. When someone came around with a platter of camembert and blue cheese I said on the first occasion "I'll have some in a minute, I've just got a mouthful of something else", and the next "I'm just nipping to the loo".

Hmmm, this is great - it has me brainstorming rather than working hehe. Procrastination? Moi?
You could say you are
Lactose intolerant (re cheese)
Mild alcohol allergy (it happens! and it is transient in some people like my hubby - sometimes he is OK sometimes not)
Sensitive to food poisoning (cold meats, food courts etc)
On these foods - when do you draw the line in the sand and not have them anymore? A day or two before transfer, or on the whole stim cycle? Hope it's the former not the latter.......![]()
DH and i went out last night and i drove, he drank, so in addition to the suggestions above, I'm thinking of crafting something along the lines that 'my dh is currently feeling hard done by/questioning his masculinity/is in training for the transatlantic stuby drinking competition, so I'm sacrificing my drinking enjoyment to boost his moral/chances of success'. I think it would stun most people into silence, but if dh overhead, it may just give him one to many ideas!
Most of the people we go out with know we are TTC, but I guess i dont want them to expect we are pg, and then have them question what has happened if we get a BFN and I go back to enjoying a drink/cheese etc (even just a little bit). I just dont know if I will handle their questions well.
Tish - your post only came through after mine. if only we could have a forum whiteboard, we could brainstorm together and then we could call it a 'meeting' and that would be legitimate work...
Re your question, i've cut out everything that they advise you not to eat if pg on the day of the ET - although I had tried to cut down my coffee/tea and wine consumption (with varying success) during the stim cycle - due in some part to feeling crap and just not wanting it. However, our conversion of egg to embies was not great (but not shocking either), and so I'm kind of now regreting not cutting back more on the drinking - I think I would try and cut it out totally for the next stim cycle...but I would still eat the cheese and that other good stuff.
This was me in christmas 06!
a simple- I'm trying to watch what I eat-
or 'doctors orders'
usually took care of things.
Haha indeed!
I'm like you, I have cut down on drinking coffee and alcohol (fell off the wagon on that one on Saturday, but it was my birthday), but have been going nuts on sushi and brie (not too different to normal hehe). Didn't ever occur to me that I should be avoiding those foods now, so I'm glad it's not the case!!
I have been on a major exercise kick for the last 12 months and have gone from being a moderate to heavy drink and occasional smoker (very occasional), to not drinking much at all - maybe 3 glasses of wine a week if that, and certainly not smoking. So stopping drinking won't raise too many eyebrows which is lucky for me!![]()
