Well I signed my release paper for the double egg transfer today
I don't really care if she used IVF to get twins or not. We have to use IVF no way can we fall pregnant naturally but i just don't know why anyone would put themselves thru it if they did not have to, but yet again she would not have the emotional aspect that woman have that really need it, as she said she can fall naturally so she still has lots of options, IVF for most of us is expensive, emotionally and physically draining and most of us can only afford to do it for so long, where as Angelina has plenty of money, and can fall naturally so i don't think she would look at it the same as we must IVFers do. But she is not affecting my life so i don't really care what she does - but if the rumors are true that she only did IVF to get twins its sort of like ordering off a menu isn't it? But none the less she has two beautiful little babies to celebrate and i guess thats what we should all focus on.
It will have taken my best friend about 9 years before her overseas adoption is complete.
My heart breaks for her, that she will have had to wait that long. :comfort: and that's not even including the time that they used IVF!
Why would anyone care one way or the other? It does not change IVF in an way. They got the money to do it and to take care of the kids.Whats the big deal?I'm sorry.I just find no point in getting into stars "private life".
i think there has been more than a few times that it's been stated that we're NOT looking at what a celebrity has done, we're looking at it from the perspective of ANY fertile couple using IVF treatment simply to have twins. even the poll question says nothing about the "stars" - it is simply that rumour that sparked the question of what IVFer's would feel if the average Jo next door used IVF to try to add two to their family, when they could have a child "naturally".
How could they be "consuming resources"?This is mind boggling. How do you know that they can have children?I have not seen their medical record.Has anyone else here?Besides all that they are NOT "consuming resources that are needed by women with a genuine need for IVF".The are paying for it with their own money. They may or may not be using their own sperm and egg.If not they paid for what they used.As far as the doctors and staff thats their job.Thats what they do.Its not any diffrent than you getting it.Who cares if they are stars. They are still human.Does that mean that NONE of us should be using IVF?If they are "bad" for having IVF so are the rest of us.Its their choice.I'm happy for them. They have two healthy babies.Good for them.
There is only a limited number of clinics and doctors, the waiting lists are huge! It doesn't matter that they pay cash, if they take the spot of a woman in genuine need, it is wrong.
The original question about about fertile couples using IVF for the purpose of getting twins, please stick to the question. Your response was probably offensive to many who have struggled through the IVF process.
Anyway I wonder if the journalist did her story about it? Probably not or we would have heard..
As a long term IVF vetran, i seriously do not find that there are 'limited
places for IVF. Sure when you first start, you might have to wait a couple of months for an appointment, but once you first get started, I have never had to wait to start a cycle due to limited resources. I have been doing IVF from 2001 to 2007!
I understand that in country or isolated areas, resources may be limited, but in the big clinics in the cities, there is no'limited places'.
Friends i know and family are embarking on IVF recently. They have to wait until november for an appointment- just like you have to wait for most specialists, but once they see the doc and get it moving, there is no delay!!!
So lets get rid on the misconception that there are limited places. A person is not going to be denied IVF because there is not enough spaces!!!! It just doesnt happen!
I am sorry.Where I live there are many many fertility doctors and offices. Here there is no wait.I'm shure a woman also wanting the treatment will be able to get a appointment.
I see no reason why it would matter if a couple had IVF to increase the chances of having twins. That is betewwn the doctor and the couple.God bless them for being able to have children (with or without IVF).I will soon be going threw IVF.If it worked for others maybe it will work for me too.I (like most) dont like pain.I dont know why anyone would want to go threw pain if there is no reason to.
Geography plays a huge part in this Odette. i for one do NOT live in the city, so for me, and for every other person who is restricted to using IVF when the regional clinics are available, there ARE limited places. anyone who required PGD has to wait until a space is available too. so it might be something of a "misconception" in the cities, but you have to get an appointment to get started - if you can't get an appointment for several months, than there ARE limits placed on your ability to start IVF.
Amanda - this is predominantly an AUSTRALIAN forum. in australia, it's not as simple as user pays, user gets. there ARE restrictions on accessing IVF. and i'm going to harp on this point as it seems to have been missed - this is not about BRAD and ANGELINA - the bulk of us don't care what they did. the question was simply asked as to how we feel if ANYONE were to use IVF just to have twins. i, and most like me, couldnt' give two hoots about brad and angelina and what their medical status is, whether or not they needed IVF. the question was not related to them directly.
Can I just say I am over this post?!! Everyone is going to have a different opinion and those opinions aren't going to change the fact that people with money can buy their way into all sorts of things - IVF amongst them (though why they would want if they don't need to I have no idea!).
Okay, this thread has had a heap of interesting, valid points put forward as to why someone would feel upset or insulted by a fertile couple wanting IVF for the SOLE PURPOSE of having twins, so this is just re-hashing that issue for the sake of it. And we've had numerous mod posts reminding people to stick to the topic and to remind everyone that when posting, to be mindful that REAL people with real fertility issues are a part of the thread.
But it is now obvious that there have been posters who have not only not bothered to read the rest of the thread, but who also do not realise that BellyBelly is a very strictly moderated forum which will not tolerate anyone ignoring repeated moderator warnings.
As a result, and because we do believe this topic has been discussed to death, we've decided to close this thread. If you have any issues with that, please contact me directly.
