    Had my 1st scan today

    Hello everyone,

I had my first scan today and have 11 follicles on my left side and a whopping 15+ on my right side. I cant remember what size they were as i was too busy comprehening the numbers. I was told by the clinic today to continue with the puregon at the same dose and have another blood test and scan on monday. So with such a large number i am starting to freak out that they are not going to be great quality eggs or that i will end up with OHSS. This is my 1st cycle so its all new to me.

    Hi Claire
Your first cycle is new for you and your FS...you have no idea how your body is going to react until you get going. They will be keeping close eye on you and monitoring your puregon dose etc. Try not to worry...take it step by step...focus on the positive...you've got follies growing...you're off and running! It is a long process and the next few weeks are going to feel like years so look after yourself. Don't think any question is too silly...that's what your clinic is there for! Good luck xxx

Curmon, even if you do get OHSS it's not the end of the world.

I had it pretty badly on my stim cycle - had 26 eggs collected and took three weeks to recover, narrowly avoided being hospitalised (mainly through being too stubborn to actually go). We couldn't transfer, I was far too sick and gets worse with pregnancy...

But, after a bit of a wait, we did our first FET in June. It worked. Sadly, I miscarried at 8.5 weeks (for reasons completely unrelated to the OHSS and the FET). We'll be having our second transfer soon, this time with a few more drugs to counteract the other issues that were discovered.

Yes, if it happens it's disappointing, painful, and just downright uncomfortable, but you do recover, and you can go on to have a successful pregnancy afterwards.

    Good luck!

Well i had my 2nd scan on Monday and a 3rd one today and things are looking good. I am a bit sore after them but with so many follies I kind of expected that. The 1st thing the lady doing the scan said "oh wow look how many you have". So i am waiting to hear back from the clinic for my results and am hoping to have my trigger tonight or tomorrow. Will keep you all posted

Curmon, good job. Just make sure you are drinking loads of water, like 2L to 3L a day.

DW had 26 eggs collected, but about 1/3 to 1/2 weren't 100% due to being either immature of too mature. We still finished with about 12 fertilised (10 normally), and 4 blastocysts.

DW was bloated and sore and looking pregnant pre-EPU due to the high follicle number but the next day after the EPU felt heaps better. It's like letting all the pressure out of a balloon really!

    Hi Claire,

Great result indeed! Don't stress too much as the first cycle is so up and down and trial and error.
I had 25 collected at EPU, 14 fertilised, but only 1 was good for transfer. My follies were between 8-15mm and only a couple were 18mm. My FS said that they were immature. Unfortunately I didnt react to drugs initially so they upped my dose and then my blood levels sky rocketed. Each person is different I suppose and you just have to trust your FS!
Good luck with the Fert and transfer! look forward to seeing how it goes and cross my fingers for a BFP for you! Sending lots of baby vibes your way

    Hi Curmon,

You could still get high quality eggs with large numbers. I just had my first IVF cycle too (in TWW) and I had 22 eggs take, 12 fertilised and 8 were high quality which our FS said is a fantastic result. We had one transferred and have 7 frozen.

Congrats on 16 eggs on your pick up, you get a few high quality ones.

Let us know how you go, good luck for transfer Tuesday

Well 7 of my eggs have fertilised, which the clinic said is a good number as we are using frozen sperm. Not all of the 16 eggs were mature enough to be fertilsed. So i will call them again on Monday to see how they are going and my transfer has been set for 10.15am tuesday morning.

    will keep you all posted.

Curmon, same deal with DW's eggs (maturity). But we still got some fertilised as you did. Well done. All the best with it.

    Hey everyone,

I had my transfer yesterday and all went well. My embryo was at blastocyst stage and was already beginning to hatch. The scientist said it looks as good as they get. So i was relieved about that. I have had 4 more frozen and at that stage there were 2 more growing. So now the dreaded 2WW.

I have a question for you all. I have been having shots of pregnyl, one on sat and i was supposed to have another today. I had to get my prog tested to see what does i should have. My prog results were quite high and i was told not to have my pregnly, instead i had to pick up some sort of vaginal gel from the clinic tomorrow. Does anyone know what this all means? Will it cause any concern with my transfer yesterday and the chances of the embryo implanting. I didnt think to ask at the time on the phone but will do so tomorrow when i see the nurses. Any help would be great!!

    Thanks
    Claire

Nope, it wont matter. The vaginal gel (crinone) keeps your progesterone levels up to what they need to be, and as your level is already high then there is no urgency. Just start it when they tell you to.

Well i had to be admitted to hospital overnight. Yuk!....OHSS....it was more of a precautionary measure as my levels were high and were on the borderline of being admitted. Due to living 2.5hrs drive away from the clinic which is at a hospital they wanted to keep me in to be safe. I am on strict bed rest with plenty of fluids till Monday when i have my next blood test, so heres hoping its all good and i dont need to spend anymore time in hospital.
