Ok, so I never found the ivf stim injections that bad, stung a little bit but they were very bearable ( puregon and orgulatron).
Today I commenced 80mg clexane in preperation for my FET today, i will have to inject it everyday in the tww and ? every day when/if I get pregnant, due to a high level in one of my clotting investigations.
OMG, it hurt sooooo much, the needle is massive and even that hurt going in and the stuff stings/burns like nothing else and continues for about 10mins after. I was so shocked I was shaking afterwards and nearly started crying cos I immediately thought "how am i going to do this everyday?"
I give patients 40mg clexane at work everyday and they do say it stings but nobody really reacts like i did, maybe the double dose hurts doubly as much? Or am I a wimp lol??
Has anyone been on this and have any tips to make it more bearable?
I know i will just have to suck it up and deal with it, and if it gets me pregnant and staying pregnant, hey, I will learn to love it and stop winging!
DH had to have it for a month to treat a post-op blood clot and it didn't matter what we tried, it always hurt for up to 10-20 minutes afterwards sometimes and his stomach was covered in bruises. There were only 2 times when it didn't hurt and we think that was just a fluke. One thing we did try that did seem to help a bit was to keep pinching the skin for a bit after the needle has been removed and do it as slow as you can. Also warming it in your hands for a bit first was better than injecting it if it was cold as well.
ETA - just checked DH's old script and he was having the 80mg ones too - so maybe it is because of the higher dose?
I was on 140mg of clexane forte for a blood clot and the first one was the worst. It stung like a [insert rude word]. I was told what ever you do don't rub them as it will cause bruising, to be honest I found that I only ever bruised when I hit a vein with the needle. After a few days though I didn't notice the stinging as much, and after 6 weeks I barely noticed it at all. I held my hand over the site with a bit of pressure for a few seconds and that helped a bit (I image this could cause bruising too though)
Poor thing It is not nice is it... I am only on 20mg and that hurts enough I find the needle blunt too...
I have heard numbing the area with ice, injecting on a 90 degree angle and then massaging the area after helps. Also, I find some areas of the stomach are easier and less painful for some reason. It doesn't sting as bad some days.
My mum had clexane post op and found it hurt far less if she did it very first thing in the morning before she got up and moving, perhaps give that a go?
I find when giving to patients using a slight angle (if they have enough fat) works, for skinny people sometimes the leg is less painful. Definitely pinching quite firmly before giving the injection and holding for a bit. Could your DH do it for you sometimes? or if you are at work a colleague, I think self injecting must be hard as there is the anticipation of the pain and anxiety about giving ait and knowing exactly when it will happen. I do think they higher doses sting more from seeing patients reactions, I worked in a cardiac unit for a while and a lot of pt's were on BD therapeutic clexane some up to 140mg BD for the bigger boys 'ouch'
Hope your FET went well today Saffy! I used to take a few deep breathes and really breathe out hard, try to loosen up / stop tensing up, also wiggle your toes, and then inject. I did sooooo many clexane shots - during IVF and when pg and after my cs, and I always bruised with them
thanks for the advice girls, glad I'm not on 140mg! FET went well too.
I didn't think it was my technique as often patients say they didn't feel it when I give it, but I suppose sometimes it hurts in places more than others.
I will def get people at work to give it when i am there, as for DH- no chance he would pass out lol!
Will try ice before and FS said try pressing on it for 5 mins after.
About to do my next one, thanks again everyone xx
Sorry to hear about the pain, I am only on 60mg and it hurts but I don't know about the 80mg. I find if I pinch really hard and put the needle in at a slight angle and then inject quite slowly and remove slowly then it hurts less. For some reason it hurts less on my right side than my left, perhaps a more steady hand or less fear when putting in the needle? Also, sometimes it hardly hurts at all (maybe Im getting used to it now?)
Yeah, I used ice prior and it hurt MUCH less, also I think the area I did was better (thanks skybie), hasn't bruised at all yet. If its like this some of the time i can definately handle it. I think the ice took away the needle pain and then there was just the medicine sting, much better PHEW!
Good luck Diamond Girl, will you have to use it all through your pregnancy??
Woohoo Saffy. I will try the ice tonight too. I see my Dr next Thursday and he is going to review whether or not I need to continue using clexane. I am still on Asprin daily as well. Originally he said untill 36w, but everything seems to be going well so who knows?
