Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
Pholi, the choice to stop treatments is yours, not your FS's. If you want to go ahead knowing there are lower odds of success, then you have every right to make that choice. As for improving egg quality, the most common treatments are CoQ10, melatonin and DHEA. Be careful with the testosterone - if your levels are normal (ie not low) to begin with, adding testosterone can actually make egg quality worse. You should really have your levels tested before starting, but I've found most Drs don't bother to test (and tell you it's not necessary when you ask). Acupuncture can also help to improve egg quality. Most treatments for egg quality (CoQ10, DHEA and acupuncture) are most effective when used over the full growth cycle of the egg (4 months) rather than just in the stim cycle. I think melatonin is the one exception that acts on the egg in it's final stage of growth rather than the full growth cycle, but double check that rather than taking my word for it.
Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
Thanks Juniper.
He said that a short course of both testosterone and the melatonin can be effective over just one cycle. He did say that DHEA needs at least 3 months. But he said they improve egg numbers, by bringing primordial eggs to a stage that Gonal f can act on them, rather than improving egg quality.
I think I might be getting into the territory of less tried and tested treatments and outcomes now. :/
I had thought about acupuncture. I wonder if it was worth it. And if DS would sit in his pram and watch play school on my iPhone for the duration of a session!
How long does coQ10 take to be effective? And is there a form its best in, or a brand or dosage recommended?
Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
Juniper, could you please put me as CD2. I'm losing the plot, AF came on CD26. My cycles are getting shorted and I'm on my way to menopause .
Chellico, I'm sorry about the cancelled FET. That sucks
Pholi, I'm so sorry to hear about your. Big hugs lovely and good luck with the melatonin and COQ10.
Hello to everyone else, I'll try and catch up a bit in here, been so slack and unmotivated. Again. Still trying to save for the very expensive and last cycle.
Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
Pholi, I don't post in here very often but I have done the protocol you're talking about. I took coq10 (600mg ubiquonol daily) for over two years, 75mg DHEA for a year, 4mg compound melatonin for a year....along with a myriad of other things such as steroids, human growth hormone, a cancer drug called filgrastim, etc, etc, etc.....It did nada. But then, nothing worked for me. You have a miracle already so you might have more luck as your body at least knows what it's meant to do! Good luck!

Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
Pholi, I go to acupuncture in the evenings, after DH is home from work. I have also gone on Saturday mornings in the past. No way DD would sit still and let me relax if I took her with me...
Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
Thanks for sharing your story, N2L. I'm sorry it didn't work for you. I have to hope that it will for me.
I've booked in to acupuncture, Juniper. After hours appointments were not going be available in time, so I'll try to get someone to look after DS while I'm there.
Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014

Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
I have a little bit of hope this month! Got v faint second line on Sat, and more convincing today. I've had so many chem pregs, and it's almost exactly a year since the last mc, so I don't dare get excited. Just called my ob & found out he's on leave til 8th October, so now I'm going to have to wait til the 9th before seeing if it's ok to get excited. Going to be a looooong 3.5 weeks
Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
Crossing everything for you twollamas. Sounds really hopeful. 3.5wks is a ling time to wait though. How many sticks are you likely to pee on between now and then.
