hi Cheryl, and welcome!!! thanks for the good wishes!
quick explanation of IUI (intrauterine insemination) - basically you go through ovulation induction (similar to the IVF process) except that they aim for development of 1-4 follies, rather than a high count - once the follies are "ripe" they trigger ovulation (which is where we're at today)
they then collect a sample from DH and "clean" the sample - they get the simmers into a nice friendly solution, and then use a catheter to inject the sample back into the uterus so that it's in a prime location to catch the eggie! it's not as common as IVF as some clinics won't give it a go - a lot of the time once you get to needing assistance, there are multiple factors an IVF is more likely to succeed - from what i've heard, some clinics don't even practice IUI - but we haven't yet had IVF suggested to us - the clinic is keen to try everything they can prior to the invasive procedures needed for IVF.
that's a really simplified explanation - but it's the explanation i gave my bro and SIL a few days ago, and helped them to understand it - so hope it helps!
i see you're starting ICSI next month - good luck hun!
