HI girls - i can't believe we've made it to number 3 for May already!

just wanted to post a quick update - went for u/s this morning, and all three follies have progressed nicely - and IUI is on for tomorrow morning! WOO HOO - i can't believe we've finally made it this far!!

i'm such a mixture of emotions at the moment - excited, but also petrified of the unknown - but i guess that's part and parcel of the deal - am so looking forward to the nex step - it's taken us soooo long to get here!

thanks Ellie - it can't gethere quick enough!

just got a message from a long term friend - she had a baby just on a year back - and knew that i haven't been to visit much because i'm struggling with the AC journey and the emotional roller coaster that has been our life lately. message "how's thing? just wanted to let you know i'm pg again"

i'm gutted - i'm happy for her that she's having another baby - but i can't believe she's been so inconsiderate as to just drop me a message like that - this is someone who KNOWS we're going through hell to have a baby - i'd have thought she was smart enough to realise that's not the way to tell someone news like that... grrrrrrrrrr

ok, back to good thoughts - it's all go!!!

hope you're doing ok Ellie - have been dropping into your other thread and you sound as if you and DH are very supportive of each other. take care hun

I know what you mean - my DP and I are finding that "the world is pregnant" or so it seems to us! We just had a phone call last week from an old school friend of his - he and his wife are expecting their 3rd (the 2nd is 10 months old!). Apparently this one was unplanned! Everyone at work or work's wives or girlfriends are pregnant as well! I must be drinking the wrong type of water!!

Anyway, BG, I have to ask as I can't find the abbreviation anywhere on the site - what is an IUI? I am new learning a whole new language that goes with IVF and it is all pretty overwhelming at times! I thought my work had enough TLAs (three letter abbreviations ) in it let alone adding to my list!

Good luck for tomorrow morning - you deserve lots of luck and

hi Cheryl, and welcome!!! thanks for the good wishes!

quick explanation of IUI (intrauterine insemination) - basically you go through ovulation induction (similar to the IVF process) except that they aim for development of 1-4 follies, rather than a high count - once the follies are "ripe" they trigger ovulation (which is where we're at today)

they then collect a sample from DH and "clean" the sample - they get the simmers into a nice friendly solution, and then use a catheter to inject the sample back into the uterus so that it's in a prime location to catch the eggie! it's not as common as IVF as some clinics won't give it a go - a lot of the time once you get to needing assistance, there are multiple factors an IVF is more likely to succeed - from what i've heard, some clinics don't even practice IUI - but we haven't yet had IVF suggested to us - the clinic is keen to try everything they can prior to the invasive procedures needed for IVF.

that's a really simplified explanation - but it's the explanation i gave my bro and SIL a few days ago, and helped them to understand it - so hope it helps!

i see you're starting ICSI next month - good luck hun!

    Hello BB family,

Had my BT today as scheduled. Kick in the teeth to have to do it knowing what the result will be but i know that they have to be 100% sure.
The nurse (I have a lovely one who i see - the same one every time which is great) said that my eggs were poor quality, and even the emby they did put back was not so great (but seeing as it was the only one, they gave it a go). It would not have been good enough to freeze as it would not have survived apparently. Anyway, she thinks that maybe the same thing happened to me as what happened to you BG, only to a much lesser extent. When they did the down reg bit, my ovaries just couldn't manage to wake back up again. I am not holding my breath too much, but we are hopeful that next time i'll just do a flare, and skip the down reg bit - YAY. Much less waiting, I hate the pill, and the shorter the Synarel cycle the better!!
But i must not get too excited - still a week until we see the FS.

BG -I Can't believe that someone who knows you are TTC would send you a text to say they are PG. That's not cool. I have this crazy neuroticism where everytime the phone rings i think it's someone going to tell me they are pg. I spend days not answering the phone just in case. Loopy aye!

DH's birthday tomorrow - i just baked him a chocy cake to take to work, and i am trying sooo hard not to cut a piece off for me! Lots of chocy icing made it's way into my tummy already!

aw hun - having that confirmation just sucks, doesn't it? at least it sounds like they've been able to come up with a reason so hopefully it doesn't happen next time around. i haven't had to use synarel at all this time around - maybe they'll give you a cycle like that.... hugs hun - i hope they can work something out soon

i understand the neurotic side of things where you just don't want to talk to people - i went through a few weeks mid last year where every time i spoke to someone i found out they were pregnant - it was so damn hard!

    Afternoon Ladies,

Shannon and Kotare - So sorry to hear that AF arrived for both of you girls.
Hopefully the next cycle will be the one for both of you.

Ellie - My heart goes out to you.

BG - Great news, and the best of luck for the IUI tomorrow

Holly – Thanks for the info on Nettle tea, a girlfriend at work has been nagging me on this one for ages, maybe I should try it out.

    Everyone Else -

*WARNING - Self indulgent rant follows:
AF arrived this morning, on CD23, the shortest cycle I have ever had! I'm usualyy a 26 - 28 day girl, 30 with the first 2 Clomid cycles and 29 with the third. Not sure what has happened this time!
I'm a little annoyed at my gyno too as I was just told to BD around CD13 to 15 while on the Clomid, but no other tests were performed to confirm ovulation dates, only the day 21 test, which was only done on my first two cycles and showed that I had ovulated.
The billings people that I have been dealing with for about 8 months suggested hormone monitoring this cycle and I rang last night (would have waited til tonight if I had known AF was arriving!) to get the results so far and apparently I ovulated around day 7 or 8 and my fertile period was finished by CD11. Grrrrr
Luckily we had BD on CD7, but obviously not successfully.
Apparently my estrogen levels were extremely high and I know that my progesterone levels have previously been at 142 on a day 21 test.
I may do another monitoring cycle next month and see how different it is without the Clomid.
Guess we wait now until June and then decide on the next step.

Hope everybody has a lovely weekend.
    :hugs: to all

    Hi BG

Thanks for the explanation of IUI. Neither my FS or the doc my DP was seeing (Andrologist) suggested anything like that - straight to IVF for us, not even Clomid or anything else that I have read about in the BB forums. I guess that might be because of my age - I am approaching a significant milestone birthday in less than 2 months and don't even want to think about it!

I am trying to be positive and hopeful without being overly optimisitic that IVF with ICSI will be the answer for us, but I can't help but think since no-one knows why we aren't conceiving naturally that there might be some interesting things in store for us over the next few months. Cross your fingers for us!

Anyway, have a great weekend all. I am enjoying chatting on the forums and am starting to feel like we are not alone in this whole process which is comforting. Thanks to all and best wishes for BFPs coming our way!

    Cheryl xx

ATT - so sorry to hear things didn't work out on this round of Clomid hun - hopinr you can get some answers before you have to move to AC

Chez - it's possible IUI wasn't mentioned for you because your infertility has unknown origins. it's out of the question for male factor infertility, and from what i've garnered, it's mainly used where the primary reason for infertility is lack of ovulation - if you already ovulate and are not able to get pg naturally, it is doubtful IUI would be beneficial. i have a friend who has successfully had two beautiful bubba's via IUI - with the same clinic nurse i'm dealing with - so i have a lot of faith in the process!

    Ok girls,

BG you were right it was going to be a great day for us both!!so wonderful to hear that your journey is progressing well, all my very bestist wishes are with you.

ATT - so sorry this cycle was ment to be for you hun. we are hear for you to vent anytime

Jo- what you are about to do re: next cycle is exactly what was explained to me and is what we are doing next and im soooooooooooooo excited. i hope we can share this next journey together.GL hun

Welcome Cheryl, i hope you have much success and hoping you will find bb as wonderful as i have for the last several months.

Ellie, i hope you boss was a little more understanding today and please keep your chin up darling

Holly - guess what i got some tea from a local health food shop, so im hoping that helps and i hoping it increases my water intake as im shocking, although i do enjoy a milky cuppa, but that doesnt count.lol hope your well and looking forward to your visit with Antonia.

Taff, BW - how you going hun?

well for me, i dont really know if i will get this all out right so please bear with me and my explination.

Firstly DFS (im changing FS to DEAR FS, as hes in my good books today.lol) well he said that my ovaries arnt really liking the cycles that we have done and this is manily due to PCOS, so ...............................wait for it NO SPRAY OR PILL, YAY, YAY(he said that was the responce that he's always getting.lol) so all in all there is no down reg with my next stim cycle and so that reduces the risk of OHSS too, which is great. the cycle i will be doing is called an ANTAGONIST PROTOCOL. I will also be taking baby asprin (one a day until i am 20 weeks pg)

Im so so sooooooooooo excited, which is a great because i was starting to loose hope in the way my cycles had always been done, AF only left yesterday so im hanging out for my next one now, bring it on!!

Lou - that's fantastic hun - i've been on the antagonist protocol this time around - and Mac was very confident we'd get a better result (obviously he was right!!) - it's so nice to not have to take the spray, and apart from having the upset stomach factor when i was on the antagonist injections (which only lasted three days anyway) it was so much easier - shorter protocol, and much more "user friendly"! i'm surprised they didn't kick it off today though - basically the puregon shots for me had to start on day 2 of AF - which you are on today... although if AF shows up regularly for you, it's not a big wait anyway! good luck hun - i'm so glad you're in a better place now that you've got some positive news - it definitely has been a good day for us both!

oh yeah, i'll agree with calling Mac "DFS" - he's very sweet, isn't he?

just got a call from my mum - apparently she was talking today to the friend that sent the badly worded message - she told mum she was pg - and then asked her not to tell me cos she wanted to tell me herself - she then admitted to mum she was worried about my reaction to her being pg considering all the AC stuff, and didn't know how to tell me. it's nice that she acknowledged it to mum, but HELLO!! it's not mum who's struggling - you'd think considering she ADMITTED that she knew i was having issues that she'd try to be more understanding and a little more respectul when telling me..... GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

ok, vent over! time to shake it off and feel nice and positive about EVERYTHING for tomorrow!

oops - teach me to type something without re-reading a commment! sorry hun - should have realised! i think i need a nana nap!

it's great to hear you're feeling positive about things - and even better that Mac sounds like he's just as confident as you! for once, i'll be praying for you that AF behaves herself and shows up again for you when she should be due - it will be great to have you UTD by the end of next month! we really need some good news around here - mother nature is being a PITA at the moment, and causing so many people heartache....

    good luck with it all

oh yeah, forgot to post earlier - i'm pretty sure it was the antagonist meds making me so queasy - has been over 30 hours since last needle, and i'm feeling so much better in myself!! (nurse said it was only in the system for 24 hours... i'm glad it's not a long lasting drug!)
