Default Looking for an acupuncturist who also deals in fertility

Based on a previous discussion about the benefits of acupuncture I'm on the search for a wonder acupucturist who also specialises in infertility and who understands how the two interact with each other.

I know Butterfly Warrior has said great things about hers in NSW, but I need one in Melbourne!! Can anyone recommend someone that they love??

Soph, if you like I will check with mine when I go next if she knows of anyone in Melbourne... although, that's on Friday and I will need to be reminded before then!

I've had a bit of a play around with google - if you search pages from Australia for the words acupuncture fertility melbourne, the second link down looks like it could be helpful for you. At the very least it would give you some places to call and ask questions if nobody else can recommend anyone.

Fertile Ground is a clinic in East Melbourne that deals with natural medicine for fertility etc and they have acupuncturists. I'm going for the first time on Tues for a preg massage (24wks) but am thinking about seeing an acupuncturist there closer to the time, especially to avoid an induction. I wish I had heard of them earlier as we had long term TTC issues.
    Good luck!

Soph, I agree with Blackbird. I went to Fertile Ground too. Millie is wonderful. She gave me acupuncture there throughout my IVF treatment. Please PM or email me if you would like more information.

Thank you very much for the recommendation. I am so pleased to hear someone has been there before.

Melbo - do you think it was acupuncture that helped you in the process? How much was it and how often did you have to go?

There are a couple of Obstetric Accupuncturists in the city and in brunswick everyone raves about, I will see if I can find the brochures!

    Soph,

I am not sure to what degree the acupuncture assisted in the success of my cycle, however I can say that it provided an opportunity for a relaxing interlude during treatment that was not to be sneezed at. =)

I started seeing her in February in the lead up to my first cycle. I kept going throughout the early pg period as I had some acupuncture to help with the morning sickness as well. I can't remember costs off the top of my head but I had a small bonus a few months later when Medibank allowed me to claim quite a fair bit of them back. I would suggest ringing the clinic to ask about their current pricing as it has now been a year since I was a patient there and things may have changed.

Best of luck and let us know how you get on.

I have some articles about acupuncture and IVF on my website. Not quite the same as accupuncture and infertility but they might be interesting reading for you.

Hopefully you've found someone by now but if not look up the Australian Chinese Medicine and Accupuncture Association (ACCMA) in your yellow pages and give them a ring to find practitioners in your area.

Okay here's one - will post as I find them!

Fairfield Holistic Health Group, just a few doors down from Rhea (brunswick). Brilliant team there with an amazing track record of helping women conceive. They also work happily with clients using conventional meds too.

    And another

Stephen Clavey is the whose who of chinese medicine specialising in infertility in Melbourne. He's the only one I'd go to. He was recommended when I was studying shiatsu and chinese medicine in Melbourne. Am now living in Byron so don't have a Melbourne phone book handy. He's in town above the theosophical society. Lovely guy and I know a few women who saw him and later conceived.

    Hi Sophie!

I know you posted this a while ago, but I just wanted to say I'm seeing a lady in Mitcham called Irene Prantalous - she is wonderful. I am so happy I found her as shes the only one Ive found in all my 5 years of TTC who listens to me and understands what we're going through. I'm in my 3rd month of treatment and hoping I wont need IVF after all. She's in the yellow pages and also has offices in Prahran (sp?).

She give AC on CD1, 5, Oday, then once during the 2ww and prescribes Chinese Herbs for the different phases of your cycle. It works out to about $360 a month for the AC and herbs. A bit steep I guess but if it works its alot cheaper than IVF expecially since I don't qualify for Medicare yet.

    Good luck!!

I am glad I found this post. I am very interested in acupuncture too and I have endometriosis, been trying to concieve for about 15 months now (2nd child).

I cannot afford $360 a month however!! I live in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne so may try the one in Balwyn...?? anyone else recommend anyone?
