Firstly thank you all for making me feel welcomed into this thread - it's nice to have people to talk to about this stuff, and thank you for your info on the OPK's I don't seem to have that much luck with them I always am ovulating with them (something to do with PCOS and my LH levels)- although I haven't used the brand you talked about 31Becc.
Im not to sure if I will need to worry about going on chlomid, temping and OPK's anymore anyway after my visit to the FS today - it seems that DH's SA is alot worse than I thought and he has to go and have a more detailed analysis done - I felt so sorry for him he was so crushed by the result . Unless the next test is a thousand times better it looks like IVF or ICIS is our next avenue - So Dee looks like we might be IVF buddies too.
I know what you mean Tammara about AF half the month you dread her and the other half you want her to hurry up so you can start the next lot of TTC methods!
For your DH Mahli09... It can be so hard on them.. I wish you didn't have to be considering IVF but I know for me that I feel so much more in control with the idea that I know how every step has gone.. Having unexplained infertility means that I don't know where the process is breaking down and I will hopefully overcome that with IVF... I hope you don't take this the wrong way but every cloud has a silver lining and your DH's analysis may have saved you quite a long time of .. they are hopefully going to get you cranking along and you'll have that BFP in no time... This journey changes all of us... One way or another... I hope you don't have to walk as far...
Dee - I totally understand where you're coming from when you say that you feel more in control with IVF - I've been thinking about this a lot lately and I feel that I won't be doing enough until I've gone to IVF. I'm wishing you all the luck I can muster that you get your BFP first cycle!
31becc - My first 3 cycles on Clomid were 35 days (like clockwork) and the last cycle was 36 days so not too far out of whack. Before Clomid (on Met alone) my cycles were just like yours, all over the place (28-41 days)! Before Met it was not unusual for me to go without AF for 4 months and then once I had AF for 3 months I'm so glad the pain has gone now and AF has taken a hike. It's really odd but I had the same kind of thing - mega pain on day 1 & 2 of AF and now on day 3 she's almost disappeared - very odd
Tammara - I know exactly what you mean LOL! It's odd that we think so much about AF when we dislike her so much I hope she arrives for you soon so you can get cracking
Mahli - I'm so sorry to hear about the news from your FS I'm sure dh was devastated - I don't know why but us girls seem to take infertility a lot better than the guys ... maybe they feel like it's taking away their 'manhood'? I have to agree with Dee though, you may well get your BFP a whole lot quicker on IVF ... although I am sorry that you have to go through it Good Luck hon
I'll be back for a AFM post - dh just got home and it's his birthday so I should go and spoil him LOL!
I just wanted to have a vent about a GP I saw yesterday if that's o.k? - My regular GP has gone a bit troppo since her marriage break-up (crying to patients!) so I thought I'd just see the new Doc because I only needed a Met script.
Anyways, he asks me why I'm taking Met so I tell him that I have PCOS and he says "what does the Metformin do?" so I explained that it regulates my cycles to a certain degree and without it, I go months at a time without AF (hellooooo patient here - shouldn't YOU be telling me what it does grrrrrr! ) so he looks at DH, laughs and says "isn't it preferable to not have a period - especially for you?" this was my hubby's face ---->
At this point, I was starting to boil but he asked me about our TTC journey and the PCOS so I started to explain it all to him and he began waving his hands at me in a 'shut up' motion DH stands up and says "obviously you don't care Doc so if you give us the script we'll be on our way" - Doctor says "oh no, I do care, do you think I need to do some homework on PCOS?" to which DH replies "errrrrrr yes!" and then he took the cake with this comment.......
"Not many people know this but I will tell you - if you lose weight you will cure the PCOS - it's the only known cure for PCOS and therefore I don't believe in PCOS only in overweight women who believe they have it"
On top of that, I told him that I have a 16 day luteal phase and he says "no you don't - I practice evidence based medicine and the luteal phase is 14 days long ALWAYS!"
Phew! I feel better after getting that out LOL! Sorry about the rant, it's just been bothering me since yesterday
It's horrible to think that someone like him is allowed to treat patients and prescribe medication, especially when he doesn't even know what he is talking about!! He should keep his uneducated opinions to himself!!
My goodness Kylie - what a d.... head!!!!! I can't believe he would make a comment like that to your DH - especially when it is a very sensitive subject. What a joke of a Doctor. Do you have a Fertility specialist. My local doctor referred me as he would not subscribe anything. This place I go to is brilliant, they monitor everything. The only problem is, is that they are in Albury, so don't know if you are near there. I can give you his details if you want.
Mahli09 - can see where Dee is coming from with her comments about IVF. When we were initially considering trying - a doctor told us to try for at least a year, then start worrying! - so we tried for the year - as it turned out I probably only O about twice in that time! It is very frustrating to find out that after doing to monthly thing for a year and wondering the whole time why you aren't preggies, yet and find out after we could have saved a lot of time! So hopefully it does cut out some waiting time for you.
Tammara - understand the AF thing - I was glad to get mine this month as I was in a lot of pain and knew I could get on with this month. hate the waiting game!
I know! What a to$$er! I've dealt with some incompetent Doctors in my time but he takes the cake Thanks for letting me vent
becc - My usual GP is fantastic (when her marriage isn't breaking down lol) and she's even qualified to prescribe Clomid and she's very interested in PCOS - she literally gets really excited when she finds out about new drugs or research that may help PCOS. I live in the middle of nowhere so the best we have is a OBGYN visiting once a week (or fortnight, can't remember). The FS that I have to see is 6 hours away - this is the whole reason we haven't started IVF yet. I could be monitored from out here BUT we only have one x-ray department and it's a minimum one month wait so I would have to drive at least 3 hours (nearest town) to get a scan
Oh dear, I've waffled on again ... sorry ladies
