    Ovarian Drilling to help ovulation

    hey hey girls!

Well after a OHS cycle which resulted in pregnancy which therefore we lost our little heartbeat at 10 weeks I am now back into the TTC bandwagon! My FS does not want to put me on FSH injections again due to the hyperstimulation without doing an actual transfer (As I do not ovulate on my own we were trying by injections but OHSS on very low dose)

So she has suggested Laparoscopic Drilling aka Golf balling to my ovary to help ovulate on my own for a maximum of 6 months but this surgery may not work either.. I am just wondering if anyone had a success rate from it what some of the side effects are and what can happen with having this surgery... Do you think its worthwhile to try before trying a transfer the thing is she can almost guarantee that I will get OHSS again and end up in hospital even without the transfer being performed straight away... I was in hospital for 2 weeks and I had a total of 30kgs put on in those 2 weeks..

Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated xxxxx

    Hi Miss K,
I'm sorry I can't help you on this topic, but just wanted to say I'm very sorry for your loss and wish you well on your TTC journey.

    Hi Miss K,

I had the drilling - doesn't seem to have worked for me yet - had it in April then 3 rounds clomid then x1 round of FSH injections but cancelled cycle as they weren't working. I'm not sure about the op - apparently it's quite an old fashion treatment? I was having a large cyst remmoved so my FS decided to "do it while he was there"! Sorry i can't be of more help. Good luck

Hi there, I had the drilling done last friday. I really hope that it works, to have to deal with I will be never called "mummy" is somewhere I really don't want to go.
My husband thinks the male hormones have gone, he thinks I am acting more like a female with raging hormones (whatever that means). We have exhausted all other options and this was the last one, so I wish you luck with your operation. FYI I stayed in overnight in the hospital and have spent a week off work, it is not as easy recovery as from your normal lap.

Hi Miss K, Im sorry to hear of you loss, that would have been heartbreaking.

Have you looked into IVM (In Vitro Maturation)? Its main benefit is that you dont need to take any FSH drugs. It has a lower success rate because its still relatively new and isnt widely used, but if you are trying to avoid OHSS than it could be an option. Just something to think about anyway.

Back to the subject - I haven't had ovarian drilling done, I was told that it might help me ovulate, but as we had male factor issues as well so it wasnt going to make any difference to falling pregnant. My FS said that the IVM egg retrieval process is very similar to the ovarian drilling anyhow, so I would get similar benefits from going through that anyway.

    Hope that makes sense!
