Question When did you do your injections?

We just picked up my lucrin today to start in 11 days (EEP) and I wondered what sort of time people did their injections?

I was thinking around 8pm after Zander was in bed would be best at first. The I realised I'm out 2 nights a week, just at my parents & ILs so not a big deal really, but I have a BB dinner to go to right in the middle of the cycle. I don't think it'd look good my taking my syringes into the loo of a restaurant!!

Then if I do them of a morning it all gets messed up because of my work times & it would mean I have to take everything to work twice a week. Not so bad as they wouldn't mind, but would it be crazy to travel the meds an hour to & from work two days a week.

So that leaves it to be around 5.30pm - I'm home from work by then & not ready to go out anywhere of a night. My only issue would be when I get home late from work from traffic, like today it was 5.45pm. So how much leeway is there with the timing of the injections? I'll call the clinic next week to double check, but in the meantime thought I would ask the experts

Sarah, my understanding was that timing was much more crucial with the synarel, but not so important with the lucrin. I'd just do mine in the evening, some time before bed. This actually meant that they could happen as early as 6pm, or if we'd been out, as late as 11pm. I was the same when we moved to the puregon as well as lucrin - it would happen in the evening, whenever we got around to it, or were finally home, or whatever.

The comments my nurses made about timing with synarel resulted in me squirting while driving down Windsor Road, or squirting in the middle of church - because it was *that* time again... but they made no comments about timing the other injections, so they happened when they happened... and it all worked out in the end!

And just before you panic - the OHSS wasn't due to the dodgy times - it was due to my PCOS and over-responding once we'd got my body to respond at all.

Yep, like BW said, even up to an hour or so leeway. So if you think 5.30pm will work best for you, but you might get home late some nights say 6pm or whatever, you'll still be fine.

I found just before bed (so around 9pm-10pm for me) worked best for me because I knew I wouldn't really be out any later than that taking DD into consideration. I did have to miss a hen's night because of it though, none of my girlfriends knew we were doing a cycle and it was just all too hard.

I was on gonal f and you could seriously do that at the table at the BB dinner! LOL! We all know what you're up to anyway! But they are the injection pens, if lucrin is the syringe type injection, it might be a little trickier, I have no experience with lucrin.

So excited for you that you're underway!

    Hi Sarah,

I just finished my 1st cycle injections on the puregon and did them at about 7pm every night. As BW said, the nurses never said the timing of the injections was as important as with the synarel. However they did mention to me when I queried it one time that if there was an hour leway in the timing, it wouldnt be a huge issue anyway.

So , the way I looked at it, anytime after 6pm was good!

Also, a hint i picked up from my SIL - use an icepack to numb the area for about 5 mins before you inject. It numbs up reall good and you cant feel a thing. It works as I never felt any of my injections, including the trigger shot.

Good luck, I hope it all goes well for you.

    Cheers.... Fi

Sarah - a 50c piece in the freezer is good too - especially for your trigger shot!

Firstly how exciting sarah. I always did my injections at 7pm also as i knew i would be just getting home from work on a 'bad' day. But like the others have said an hour or so really doesnt matter. GL hun.

Thanks so much guys. The nurse said around the same time, so I thought it had to be pretty well on the same time. Thanks also for the suggestions for ice & 50c pieces, I never even thought of that!!

And yeah Willow, the pen would have been ok which the puregon is but not a full-on syringe like the lucrin!!

    Hi Sarah,
I too was on lucrin and gonal f - always did it at night around 9pm - dinner and everything out of the way - the nurse told me always do it the same time everynight within an hour - didn't know the trick of about a coin in the freezer what a great idea - however i never thought the lucrin or gonal f hurt actually i never felt them - however i always felt that dreaded trigger shot pregnyl (never look forward to that one) which you also have to have a couple of booster shots one prior to ET and one after ET so i would use that coin trick most definitely. Goodluck with your cycle - how exciting.

Hi Sarah, i am currently using puregon and we opted to do them in the am only because we both got up at the same time each morning, so we do them at 7am each morning at the same time i take the Synarel, i chose not to do the at night only because i never knew if i had something on or if we would get called out to dinner one night etc i didn't want to have to take my injections with me, also a few times at the last minute we have been out somewhere straight from work which meant i didn't have them on me. Mornings worked best for us because we knew we would ALWAYS be here BUT it does mean on weekends we have to set the alarm to have them which is painful! But i guess with Alexzander you won't have that problem!

Yeah morning would be good except that on a Saturday I have to get up at 5.30am for work, so to do it before work would mean a 5.30am wake up every day & that just isn't going to happen!

I always do mine at 8pm. After dinner, and everything is done for the night. I didn't go out at night the whole two weeks last cycle because I didn't like the idea of carting the drugs everywhere.
Just go with whatever time is most convenient for you...sounds like around 5.30. If you're home a bit late from work I dont think 15-30 minutes will make a difference with the injections.

i started out doing mine at 8pm for the first couple of cycles (when i was taking the synarel) - last cycle i set an alarm for 10pm - during the week, i am pretty much guaranteed to be home by that time, and at the weekend, if we're going to go anywhere, it's usually only at night it's either the pub (where no one notices a 10 minute absence) or at a friends place up the road (and they know what's going on and just laugh that i'm going to "shoot up" again)

i thought about morning (my alarm goes at 7 every morning) - but the nurse suggested evening/night was better - something to do with if you're going to have any side effects/hormone fluctuations causing issues with your mood, you'd sleep through it!

I did mine around 7.30pm - I think its just whatever suits your timetable best!!
I knew that at this time, I had always cooked dinner & cleaned up afterwards... DH would do some home reader with Luke & I would toddle off into the bedroom with my syringe...!!!!!!

My parents took me out for dinner on the last cycle we did - I had to do my trigger in the bathroom at a Chinese restaurant that night!!! It needed to be done at 8.13pm and we were never going to make it home!! I took it in a little cooler bag with in icepack, Dh had set his alarm on his phone, so halfway through dinner I just took my bag to the toilet!!!
I felt like a bit of a junkie (!!!) and was a little worried what the waiting staff was thinking, but oh well!!
My mum was worried that it was all too much for me, but it was my 4th full cycle, so nothing fazes me anymore!!!! Whatever works!
(So don't worry about taking your injection at the BB dinner, Sarah!!!)

Hi there, my nurse told me that my levels would be better if I did the injections in the morning, but with your schedule it doesnt suit and most other BB members who responded to this thread seem to have done theirs at night!?!
