    Syneral spray and puregon

    hey

could you please explain to me why is it that you are on syneral to help down regulate your hormones, but yet you have to stay on it while injecting hormones???? i dont really understand it?? how do we make eggs then if we are still spraying?? do you know what i am sort of getting at??

why do i need to be on the syneral spray still?? wont that stop the puregon from doing its thing?? we want hormones so we can make some good eggs right???

    look forward to your reply

the synarel stops your body being able to produce it's own hormones - so the only hormones being introduced into your system are the ones that the FS introduces. gives them a lot more control

synarel stops you ovulating before they're ready for it to happen, and means they have complete control over production of eggs.

for those of us that can't use synarel (like me) i have to have additional antagonist shots before ovulation time to stop me ovulating before they're ready for it to happen...

If you stopped taking the synarel when you started taking puregon, there'd be nothing to stop each egg ovulating when it was ready. The synarel first turns things off, and then keeps things under the control of the clinic... It's basically to ensure that none of the eggs get away before egg collection.

Even though your natural hormones are switched off by the synarel, the body still responds to the synthetic hormones that are being injected. You'd probably find that without the synarel you'd need less puregon to grow a nice batch of follicles, but the clinics seem to like pumping in a bit extra puregon and keeping the synarel going so that timing and everything else is completely under their control. Other protocols that don't use synarel usually end up needing to use another drug to stop ovulation occurring before they want it to.

I hope all that makes sense!

thanks for that BG & BW

    i understand now

    ok just another quick question

just before you inject do you prime the pen each time?? its just that on the dvd that we were given to watch it says to wind it to one click and then press to make sure some fluid comes out of the needle.

was just wondering do you prime it EVERYTIME or just when you put a new cartridge in???

    Hi,

My DH always prime it up every time he gives me the shot.. you will find that there is always spare meds in the tube, more than the amount stated on the box.

    Hope that helps

Same as Kahlan - every time. It's how you make sure the needle itself is full of puregon so you're not injecting air. I'm told air isn't harmful in subcutaneous injections, but it can be a bit painful.
