    TTC and Coffee

    So can I drink coffee while trying to conceive??? I'm currently in my 2ww. My sister is pregnant and she drinks 1 or 2 coffees every day and did so in her first pregnancy as well!

    I believe you can but better off asking your dr. It is always recommended that we cut down our our caffine intake as it is not good for the baby but I don't think it would do terrible harm as I have witnessed so many people drink coffee during pg.

    There has recently been a study which showed a link between coffee in early pg and miscarriage. There is no real way of knowing whether coffee is going to put your baby at risk or not, so you need to make a decision on whether or not you are comfortable taking the chance. Personally I stopped drinking coffee before TTC my first baby, and have only started drinking it again after DS2 turned 6 months old.

    I gave it up completely.

    Decaf tastes just as good and although it has a tiny bit of caffiene in it, not enough to cause any damage.

    I'm just a scaredy cat though who believes everything I read LOL

    that sounds fair. I was going to give Decaf a whirly and then found out it had caffeine in it! If it's not at harmful levels then I'll give that a crack. Thank you!

    B2B, what I read was that decaf has less caffiene in a cup than chocolate has in a bar - but I don't know how true that is.

    I just err on the side of caution and try to limit my intake.

    I had a m/c in October and wasn't drinking caffiene then but just want to give myself the best chance, know what I mean?

    Everyone is different though and my mate is 33 weeks and can't give up her daily esspressos!!

    Each to their own though hey?

    HAHAHAHA - go and look at all my other threads and then you'll know what rambling is!!!! Thanks for the advice. I know what you mean - I don't want to take any chances either so I'll research the decaf a bit more and give thaat a try!

    Just wanted to throw my 2 bob in!

    I heard that decaf was worse for you than normal coffee because of the stripping agents they use to get rid of the caffeine. I was drinking decaf but gave it up after hearing that. May be worth looking into some more before changing over.

    Ouch! Thanks Tania. I have given up coffee before however sitting at a desk all day at a boring job, it seems to get me through! Maybe I'll go and visit a tea shop and see what they suggest. I know that Tea also contains caffeine!

    Fortunately I don't normally drink coffee or tea to begin with. Can't give up the chocolate though. I find that if you have a bottle of spring water on your desk, chances are you will drink it... good substitute for coffee or tea.

    That is interesting MissM. I will look into this a bit more as that is my alternate drink to non-caffinated tea.

    It seems when you are LTTTC there is very little of life's pleasures we can enjoy and there not be an adverse reaction etc to for our chances of conception {{sigh}}. I thought I was doing so well giving up caffeine 4 years ago....
    I am holding onto chocolate (just therapeutic amounts) though as being good for my mental health which affects my physical health. Can I please LOL!

    I vaguely remember reading something similiar. I think the de-caf tea is the same as well? If it (tea) isn't stripped at the start, it is the tea bag that has chemicals in it to strip it of any small traces of caffeine in it. I do remember reading that there was a brand that does not use any chemicals in their tea bags, I may have even read it on the side of the box? Will check this out next time i go shopping!
