    Default Well...IVF

We have just found out that DH is infertile too! what a shock that was...so not only do I have endo he has an abnormality with the morphology of his sperm.
So it now looks like we are definetly going to do IVF. We are not sure when we want to do it as we weren't expecting this. How did any of you decide when to do it and also did you save for it or just get a loan and when you got the rebate put it straight on?

    Sorry for all the questions
    Thanks

That completely sucks, virgobabe! I know how it feels - I have severe PCOS, and it was hard enough dealing with that, but then we got the news that DH has problems with count, morphology and motility, so IVF with ICSI is our only option.

Fortunately, we have the money in savings to be able to start. Approx $3000 up front, but after medicare rebates, we should only be out of pocket for $700-$800. We couldn't start right away as we needed to get some things under control with my insulin levels. Even though the money to start with was there, we are still saving like mad so we can prepare ourselves for later cycles down the track. It would be nice to think that the first one will work, but neither of us are relying on that happening. We would never have taken out a loan for it, but that's just us and how we manage our money.

It's such a personal experience that nobody else can really tell you what to do. It's something you and your DH need to decide, in consultation with your clinic. Good luck with it all when you decide to go ahead and do it.

Thanks for that You never think that it can happen to you hey? But there you go it happens. I'm sorry to hear that you are suffering with the same situation. We only just brought a new car for christmas thats why we don't know what to do...Whether to sell it and get that loan out the way or just go with the flow. I reallly would like to do it by the end of the year but we are also worried that it will not work the first time.

    Thanks again.

Virgo, it depends on what clinic you go to as to how you can pay the fees so don't stress too much about that. I have to say that the bulk of what we spent we got back on Medicare. Have a chat to the clinic about payment options and see what they say. Sometimes it is a bit daunting until you talk to someone in patient accounts.

I hope IVF works for you and very quickly. I'm glad that at least you both know what you're dealing with. Hopefully that means the treatment will be really spot on and just what you need.

As for us ... I think by the time we had gotten through testing and I'd had the lap, I was ready to start then and there. We had a small delay though while trying other low intervention options. I didn't actually set up a savings account or anything. Just paid as I went and with the rebates it worked out fine.

    Good luck.

Virgobabe: Dont worry too much we were TTC for 4 years and a lot of tears before we went to get tested and found out it was Hubbie with low and abnormal swimmers. I had a lap and we started on ICSI straight away. We just paid as we went and have private health insurance which helped a lot and well as medicare. We have 2 very beauitful twin 18mth old boys and would not change a thing. I wish you all the best on the IVF rollercoaster.

DH knew since puberty that he would probably need help so as soon as we knew we wanted a babe we went straight to the specialists and started testing. ICSI is probably our only hope but we keep on BDing just in case! We are going through Repromed in Adelaide and I am just getting familiar with its fee structure as there has been a change in ownership of Co. since we last used it 6 years ago. I think it is around $3000 plus hospital bed up front and we have paid for each scan and bloods as they go. We were told first cycle will be out of pocket around $2000 and each cycle after that around $300. We just saved up during the delay between waiting for initial appt and payment date for starting. (and continue to save just in case)We would opt against a loan as we wouldnt want any extra pressures or worries during this time.
Hope you go well first time around!!!

Hi there Virgobabe...looks like were in the same boat! I got treated for mild endo and my DH has low sperm morph, but unlike you we were told for a year that we could get preg naturally with low sperm morph when in reality that not really the case so Im starting IVF ICSI as we speak. Also my advice- don't both with IUI with low sperm morph as its success rates are very low- I had two then found this out later!

Hope this helps, if your starting with IVF I could use a buddy!

Hi, I'm in a similar boat - all my tests have come back fine but my DH has low count & volume. He had a varicocele repaired in June last year and it's been 6 cycles of BFN's since getting improved numbers since his operation. So, it looks like its' not going to happen for us so we're starting IVF this month. I have no idea how much it's going to cost after rebates etc, but we're lucky that we have some savings. I'd probably get a loan for it though, when you decide to do it you don't want anything to stand in your way! Good luck with whatever you decide.

I hope we all get BFP's 1st time on IVF.

Im sorry you and DH are having a bad time. We didnt have the money we just use the credit card and put it back. We out laid $1300 and got back $900 and something so we were not out of pocket that much. I wish you all the luck in the word for you.
