does anyone know if clomid is bad for you to take over a long period of time and if so what can it do and also do you think ive been on clomid to long
6 mths of 50mg
break for 2 mths
back on clomid but 100mg for the past 4 mths
im getting side effects bad in the past few mths and my cm is everywhere so that is hard to work out O`ing my temps are all over the place and i dont get a reg period yet it comes any where from 30 to 40 days when she feels like it
my gyno wants me to see a f/s next but what can they do to help me and what tests and things do i need to have

I know my clinic only allowed me to take clomid for three monthes, main reason is it can actually CAUSE infertity by effecting the endometrium and yes it messes with CM, there are no proven stats but there seems to be some concern between lengthy use and cervical cancers, dont want to freak you out so investigate before taking it on board, i know someone at a different clinic too me and they too were only allowed clomid for 3 cycles. I would be asking some serious questions as i think the disruption of the endotmerium is a big concern when your trying to fall pregnant, id definately want some answers ( and possibly a move to someone who is a little more switched on)or a reason to why they are keeping you on it for so long, maybe ask about puregon, as i started on it when i couldnt do clomid any more.Also your cycles should get sorted first (probably using the pill unfortuantely) before going on fertility treatment. The tests the fs do are check DH swimmers for count and motility, you both have to get some blood tests (transmittable diseases and rubella etc.) some will do a HSG where they squirt die up your tubes too check they are ok and most will do what they call a tracking cycle, where you go for LOTS of blood test almost everyday to check whats going on with your hormone levels and to see if and when your ovulating, this includes an ultrasound. I have been given basically the same info as Scooby has posted. FS will only give 3 cycles of clomid before trying injections of FSH. FS will not give clomid until all tests have been done for both male and female. My FS didn't even go down the clomid route with me, he isn't a big fan of it due to the effects of it on the endometrium. I was put straight onto injections of Puregon after all our tests came back as normal. Hope this helps!
I took Clomid for 4 months - 3 months on (lap & hysto) so one month off then one month back on. I hate it, it messed me up - never want to take it again. It can affect your cm and fertility in a negative way.
Thing is i do actually ovulate - FS just thought it might help as we have no explanation for our infertility.
The best thing you can do is to go see an FS, they should explain the different tests and avenues that you can take.
I agree with what the others have said. To my knowledge, most specialists would reccomend only 3 (possibly up to 6 )cycles of clomid. The drug info itself I think reccomends only 6. I think you should take the refferal to a FS and get them to investigate properly. if you are not ovulating well or regularly then you may need further blood tests,scans and closer monitoring of cycles.
I rarely ovulate at all. I used clomid for 2 cycles and did fall pg on the 2nd but later m/c (my 2nd m/c) There is some thought that clomid may contribute to m/c so my FS was happy to move straight on to puregon/IUI cycle. Puregon is injectable FSH so a bit more like the "natural" hormonal stimulation for the ovaries. Has worked well for me. I am now pg for the 2nd time using this protocol.
My Fs recommended 3 cycles only to me. He did say up to 6 if i wanted too. I am just about to finish the 4th cycle. The reason why i chose to do 4 was because i had a m/c and felt i should try an extra cycle to see. I am moving to injectables next.
Personally i found that the longer i took clomid the worse the side effects. I call it the cranky pill!

I have been feeling off the past few days and have had pains on myu left side and went to the doctors yesterday and he has sent me off to have bloods and ultrasound done tomorrow
He thinks it may be cysts that is causing the pains but not to sure
I am going back to the gyno on monday and telling him i want to see a f/s and found out why im not falling preg

I was on Clomid, but my gyno only let me go on it for 3 cycles. I was then referred to a FS and placed on injectable Ovulation Induction (Puregon to stimulate follicle growth and Pregnyl for LH surge). I think the main reason that I was only allowed 3 goes was because the Clomid did not make me ovulate at all, no matter what dose he put me on.
I would get referral to FS. I really like my Gyno, but this really is an area that requires the expertise of an FS. They really get to know the way that your body works almost better than you!
I had 2 cycles of Clomid - I was ovulating very irregularly on my own (PCO). I was very closely monitored with BTs and U/S to see if a dominant follicle was developing and when there was one I had the trigger shot (Pregnyl). I was initially taking Clomid CD2-6 and then after that a BT and if a the follicle wasn't at the right size then some more Clomid and more testing until it was. My FS indicated that there were no problems with being on Clomid for more than 3 cycles. As long as I was Oing then I was going to stay on it and if I didn't O then I would move to injectibles.
From the sound of what's going on with you, the Clomid isn't working that well at causing O (which is its purpose) otherwise you would be having more regular cycles. I think you'd be much better off in the hands of a FS who can monitor you closely, run some tests and change you onto injectibles if Clomid isn't right for you.
