Congratulations BD!
Aaah - DS had a temp tonight 38.9 - tomorrow is his fake birthday (we aren't having a party just family lunch - who are all living in this flat at the moment so don't have to worry about whether to cancel or not) and then I go to Sydney at 7:30AM Monday morning till Thursday night - I really don't want him to be ill while I am away - also this week have got a follow up hearing test for him - I have had to cancel twice already so had sorted mum taking him because he keeps failing due to congestion and he hasn't had a cold in a while so I thought would be good to get him in - kids seem to pick the worst times to be sick. Hopefully he will be ok tomorrow, maybe is teeth or something - he wasn't off his food but did keep asking for a feed which he never normally does in the day but he wouldn't nap so maybe was just tired - I guess tomorrow will tell. I have got used to leaving them now, but leaving when ill is a different kettle of fish especially with DS as the BF would be beneficial and sought after more I think.
Oh wysiwyg. How's everything today?
Not good - he has had a temp all day - and his eyes just look funny (nothing wrong with them but you know how they get when kids are ill - you can always see they are ill in their eyes) - he has requested BF on and off all day - have fed him several times but I hope I don't suffer for that tomorrow by it increasing my supply. He has been a bit off his food too. He will be in good hands with mum and is just a bad cold I think - just bad timing! He won't go to daycare tomorrow, and doesn't go on a Tuesday anyway maybe by Wednesday he will be over it - better in time for his real birthday.
We had a birthday cake and candles but he was just so overwhelmed and tired that when we sang happy birthday he burst into tears - poor thing. Maybe we will have another fake birthday on Friday to make up for it.
Oh no! Poor love. U alright?
Hope he's better ASAP, hun.
I'm planning on going back to work tomorrow. A bit nervous about it, still not feeling great, but can't put it off forever. Wish me luck!
Now at airport, he was ok overnight and climbed in with mum at about 5:00 apparently. They have quite a different bond to mum and DD - I expect because she has had to play substitute mum with him - is nice, and I can see mum loves it. Had to say bye to dad this morning before got in cab he is off back to UK today should see him back here Nov time fingers crossed -but that and DS being unwell left me feeling quite teary in taxi - bad time of the month to be travelling. Is cool now at am airport though I am in work 'zone' now.
Hope your day back at work goes ok PN
Oh wysiwyg. Big morning. :-(
Good luck peanutter.
I'm at work, can't hear out of one ear from blocked sinus. The sinus is driving me nuts!
Hugs WYSIWYG - hope your trip goes quick and you are back with DS celebrating another fake birthday xx
Trip going so fast all work and no play at moment but that is fine DS apparently on the mend and DD had a great time at possum magic stage show so all is good.
Glad that he's on the mend :)
Working at home tonight ... :( should probably get off BB, eh ... ?
I have this week off - yay! I'm helping Mum move house and DDs First BirthdayParty/Naming Day is this Saturday so lots to do late week. Might need to go back to work for a rest next week! Can't believe I've been back at work 9 weeks already!! Crazy!!
Just seen Dr.
Told to take the whole week off, to get properly better :o
Says that I'm still getting over the flu, and am coming down with sinusitis and possibly bronchiolitis... :(
Going to try working from home tomorrow, and see whether:-
(1) I get any real rest
(2) I get any real work done
And then see what happens next.
Gah.
Hope you are better soon PN.
Back at normal work today - think last week will be longest away trip - anymore and will only be overnight. I am happy about that as DS seems to have struggled more this last time - his behaviour was awful on Friday but seems more back to normal now apart from wanting feeding all the time which is unusual for him. Perhaps because Dad went last week too and being ill he just noticed me missing more.
Did tax return the other night seems tax man owes me loads is a bit annoying that couldn't just be taxed right from start - anyway if family tax and childcare reconciliation don't take it all will be a nice buffer for next time I am out of work I suppose - also reinforced I need to ask for more money if contracting again, but a perm job would be so much better
Sounds like a plan, wysiwyg :)
Hi Ladies,
Hope you are all keeping well.
Struggling a bit here as DS is teething really really badly. He is waking so much overnight we are having to tag team it.
Would you consider going back to a company if they had made you redundant in a previous position? I am really not enjoying where I am and saw my old work have a position available.
Nutter hope you are feeling better and wysiwig I hope your DS settles back down again quickly
If I enjoyed the workplace I would in a heartbeat
Yes I would go back - I was made redundant and then went back as a contractor and I would go back again as contractor or permanent. Often redundancies are no reflection on persons involved and often get rid of very good people so if I liked the company and workplace I definately would.
How is everyone?
Mum has gone home so life is back to normal hectic pace in the mornings and evenings I am working. But kind of nice having a bit more space and DH and I getting evenings to ourself. DS cried at end of our first Skype call with her but now seems ok with her not being at his beck and call :-).
Boss wants to talk to me tomorrow about future plans - not sure what I want really - can be trying working environment sometimes as I find it hard to keep my mouth shut when not doing things in best way and the rest of the team are really nice but never question anything. On the other hand part time work is hard to come by so maybe should just suck it up.
Having my mental health week here, even though not as relaxing as planned. On the Jury Duty roster, so I can't plan any day till I find out if I am needed or not. Also the weather is terrible, so some of the stuff I had planned just can't be done.
We are about to hit a busy time at work, so getting prepped for that. Fingers crossed it all goes well.
DD2 keeps on saying her tummy hurts on the days she goes to childcare, as opposed to kinder. She keeps on saying she does not want to go and wants to stay home with me. Hard to explain to her that mummy works and the benefits of mummy working. I feel for her and do struggle with how to handle it. Really cannot wait for school to start next year.
wysiwyg - good part-time work is gold and I realised long ago that no matter what the job there will always be some downsides. I suppose it is just weighing up if the job is worth the downsides.
Hi ladies
I've just come across this thread and was hoping to join in. I started working again a few months ago working part time but have now come back fulltime this week. My daughter does 2 days with the grandparents 2 days at creche and I work from home 1 day. Just wondering how you ladies go about planning your days. At the moment I get up about 5.30 to have a shower breakfast etc then I wake up my daughter and get her ready for her day. My husband does shiftwork so I cant count on him all the time. By 9 o'clock at night I'm exhausted.
Happy for any tips that might help
Hi ladies
Ill be back to work in 1 and a half week and kinda looking forward to it!!
Dd2 is a hard velcro baby who is still being bf.
She refuses to drink anything but bm and even ebm is not good enough.
Been trying to get her use to my
Mum and dd rather starve until i feed her around 4ish.
I will be returning full time leaving home at 6 am and earliest ill be back is 6pm
Not looking forward to that part i will definitely miss my girls!
Im getting anxious not about work but about dd2 and her feeding issues and how mum can handle her.
Will definitely need alot of support and a shoulder to cry on from you girls soon :)
I've been sick now DS is sick :( so I'm off work with him which isn't good with my contract expiry coming in 4 weeks. I'm quite nervous. I'm also 8 weeks preg and having a moral dilemma as to when to tell them
4 days until I'm back at work :( I don't wanna go
I had a similar situation on a contract between DD and DS, with the being pregnant and deciding when to tell them. In the end I told at 8 weeks because I wanted them to know at point of renewal, I was fairly convinced they would still renew but prepared that they might not. In the end I think it worked in my favor as the amount of work they had fitted perfectly with amount of time I had before would want to finish up and I think it in a way made it easier for them to renew as knew were definitely only committing for a set time and I wouldn't be trying to extend it by creating work I would be motivated to finish IYKWIM (in my arena it is not uncommon for contractors to string work out to keep contracts going). The company had been my employer before DD as a permanent though so I did have quite a good relationship with people there, which also made me want to make sure kept them informed.
Is tricky though as there is no right or wrong time to tell about pregnancy. Also remember is unlikely they would have any moral dilemmas about letting you go. I assume here in Aus that contractors can be let go at any point without company even having to give a reason? E.g. Unfair dismissal regulations don't apply?
I need to call fair work cause I want to know if they offer me a perm job and before I sign tell them can they change their mind and take offer off table.
BD - that is tricky, a hard situation to be in. Hope it all works out.
Tough one BD. It is so silly really, employers have issues with women and pregnancy, but seem to have no problem if they hire a guy who then quits around 6 months later as he is going overseas (planned since well before starting).
Yep it sucks especially working for a global Company where your just a number
I had the situation where my employer knew I was pregnant and they told me that if I wasn't pregnant then I could have anything I wanted...but because I was pregnant I was a "liability" and my contract wasn't being renewed. So if you really want the job, I wouldn't say anything. I loved my job and still haven't forgiven them. I'm lucky I have an even better employer now...I just don't want to go back yet!
Tough decision, and one which you might need to make based on where you see the job going long term.
If (for example) they're going to feel tricked and trapped, and behave badly, is the workplace going to be a crummy plane later? And are you planning on going back after this baby? How will they be then?
Are you confident that you will be prepared to fight for your rights and demand equal treatment etc ongoingly - or will it be a source of stress, disappointment, etc, and cause you unnecessary stress and pain at a time that should be happy and calm?
Or are they going to be professional and treat you like any other pregnant employee?
Or are you unsure about whether you will go back to work, after this precious bundle arrives?
Big decision. Take your time deciding.
I know I'm coming back after 6 months for 2-3 days a week. They have to approve this though.
A plus for them is that I would be gone for the quiet period and back as it ramped up again.
I don't know it sucks. I feel so deceitful
What if you didn't know you were pregnant, then you could only tell them when you knew which could be after already had job talks. Ok you do know, but not everyone would - so really just because you do happen to know you shouldn't feel deceitful. It is fairly standard not to tell anyone till 12 weeks, so I don't see why employers should be different (some I know are because of health and safety implications they need to know as soon as you know - exposure to certain chemicals for example).
I only have one day of work this week and seems like I might not get the full three days for a couple of months so have bitten the bullet and enrolled in an online course - is just a Cert IV in Training and Assessment, will be a benefit to my CV and seems meant to be as getting some down time. Continuing to look round for something else, but not hopeful for part-time, boss last week seems pretty confident that they will have plenty of work for me come October - so fingers crossed. Getting a full day pay tomorrow for only half day as all going out for lunch with some big boss man, I offered to just work a different day so could do a full day instead (working tomorrow doesn't suit me the most as have a do with DH in the evening so would have rather not worked) but they were insistent that I am part of the team so must go to lunch - so I suppose that is a good sign.
Double Post
Haven't had any work for a few weeks which is depressing me - online course is dull and seems I don't enjoy studying much these days. Might have more work at old place in a couple of weeks - hope so. Got turned down for a job yesterday I would have been perfect for and they were desperate and wanted immediate start but apparently not interested in part-time. :-( Is a joke would rather have no-one than 3 days a week full days plus extra hours in evenings.
Need something by end of Oct or I am going to have to reassess childcare -sound familiar ????? - sounds very like me last dec/jan :-)
That sucks. You think they would have considered your offer of part time. I hope you find something soon.
AFM - I have my 3 month probation finish next week, shouldn't have any issues but you never know with this company. They could just as easily say nah not keeping you. I had to turn down an interview with the Police Force last week :( Really hoping another opportunity comes along
I'm
Really struggling with being back at work. I'm finding myself slip into a dark hole and I don't like it. I don't like the working mummy me.
