PN - is only three extra weeks - no way I would trust them to sign up for three extra months - three weeks just takes me to xmas - so would have been silly to say no really.

Hi guys! Thought I would pop in and maybe join this thread. I used to be on BB all the time but haven't for the last year or so. It sounds like I am in a similar situation to many of you - the main breadwinner, so it will be nice to chat. I have a DS (7) and my husband is the main caregiver at home, and he does some casual work on the side. I work at one of the unis in the UK. Am missing the weather back home!

Welcome back Krysalyss - I remember you posting about applying for the UK jobs. Being from the UK originally I can sympathise about the weather :-).

Thanks WYSIWYG! It's good to be back.
Sahbear - that's so exciting! Good luck! Hope you get the one you want the most. I put in for a new job yesterday as mine finishes in June and I have no idea what to do next. Hoping something awesome comes up!

Welcome krysalyss - what area are you in at the university? I'm in the Netherlands at the moment (was doing my PhD in linguistics and now applying for jobs) so I understand about the weather too. Hope you find an awesome new job!
    Good luck sahbear!

I sent one application off on friday and decided to take a little break from writing applications as it was just too much with a new baby and everyone in the family sick. So I'm just taking the time to enjoy my new little boy and think about what I want to work on and emailing people...

That's exciting Nyigi! I would love to work in the Netherlands as I have family there. I did apply for a job there but no luck. I am in animal behaviour which I love. But jobs are few and far between
Are you going for postdocs or lectureships, or something else entirely?

Sahbear - good luck with your interviews

OP - hugs - I think one of the hardest things about anything is coming to terms with the fact that the situation you are in doesn't match what you have imagined. Our 'dreams' I think are very strongly embedded in us making it really suck when reality doesn't match them (this is true of many scenarios working being just one of them).

Know how you feel krysalyss jobs are few and far between in linguistics too. I'm applying for postdocs and lectureships, pretty well whatever's going. What about you?

Re: Working Mummies Support Group #2

I am 6 months from finishing my first postdoc. I have applied for one lectureship, but am thinking I will probably have to do a second postdoc to be competitive, as I haven't yet published anything from this one yet (still getting data together). But I am also applying for one grant and two fellowships. Fingers crossed something comes up that I will want and enjoy! I would love to stay here, but my position is funded by a grant and it can't be extended. I feel a bit bad dragging my family here, there and everywhere. Would love a job back home but in the current climate that certainly isn't likely!

Have you enjoyed living in the Netherlands?

Re: Working Mummies Support Group #2

    Good luck finding something!
I've enjoyed living in the Netherlands. We've been here 7 years now (came for my masters) and the kids were born here. It will be strange to leave but there aren't many jobs going here and we also think it will just get harder to leave if we stay longer. At the moment I'm applying for positions or grants in oz, the US, the UK and germany. We'll just see if any of them come through.

Re: Working Mummies Support Group #2

Hi ladies, thought I would pop my head back in here. DS2 is all of 1 month now and I am back looking for work. My contract finished up when I left to have him and looks like the company are counting their pennies so no new contract for me. I have to be in new employment by late Feb so can't afford to wait till after new year as so many people have January off.
I had a second interview yesterday and have a third interview with them next week. I have been told to expect up to 5 interviews for the position! Got a few applications to send today too

OP wanted to give u hugs, nothing sucks worse that a crappy work environment and a bad boss. Worthwhile and meaningful work has always been important to me so I'm sorry to hear it's so hard right now

Good luck with your interview MT

PN I hope the rest of your review is great babe

Last week this week. I actually feel scared. I've never been unemployed since I hit the workforce. Entering new territory now

Hey guys sorry I haven't been around. Don't feel like I 'fit' now

OP he is a jerk he already has 2 harassment claims in against him and now he has a discrimination case too. Fair work advised that he was in breech of a few of their laws so I put in a case and waiting to hear. I sent it off a week ago so don't expect to hear anything for a while.

My last pay was a measly $190 cause he got nasty and took back what he had paid me in personal leave that I wasn't entitled too after he told me I was.

Really struggling with everything at the moment. Just didn't wanna come in an whinge.

    Hope you are all well.

    Welcome back krysalyss
