Hi ARL,
I would not panic as yet. It depends on what exact rearrangement has occurred? I am not sure from your post what has occurred? A chromosomal rearrangement can take many forms for example a translocation where part of a chromosome ends up on another, or an inversion where the genes on the chromosome get shuffled. From what you have said I don't understand how it would be good for both of you to have the supposed 'abnormality'. If what you have said is correct here, i would assume its rearrangement of the genes on chromosome 16 so if you both have the same rearrangement its okay as the alleles that come together to make up the gene (one from each of you) will align. This is all i can really say given the above. Don't worry too much - what will be will be and things happen for a reason. I wish you all the best and hope everything works out.
ALR:
im praying for you hun !!
thats all we can do for you till you come back and tell us either way ... i bet all us ladies are checking everyday for a post from you , so we can load you up with support...
how is dp... do you think he knows the real truth but is too scared to think about it ?? i hope you are strong together.. my thoughts are with him (and you ) aswell
Hi ALR
Just wanted to check in with you and see how you and DP are going.
Thinking about you and hoping you've had some better news.
Come back to us at BB when you can,
Hi all
sorry I been away.. needed time to get my head together.
Firstly U/S on monday went well with specialist saying bub was "structurally fine"
Spoke to second geneticist tuesday ( she was ALOT nicer, I explained how i was feeling pressured and she was very respectful) however test results did not come in til wed's day (Had to wait another day for them)
Final results were good... Craig my DP had the "rearrangement" which meant that bubs second Chromosome from him also had the extra bit. Nixsonsmumma, yes I did alot of reading so I was aware of the different kids of rearrangements. Craig appears to have "extra" DNA in his chromosome 16 but it is in what they said was the "junk part' of it. This meant that it was harmless. When they showed us bubs ch16 it showed 1 normal one and one which had an extra bit in it. The reason i was hoping that either Craig or myself had this extra junk was because it would mean bub just inherited it from us. The alternative meant that something had gone wrong in conception with bubs dna and that would mean a range of prob's from physical malformations (cleft pallette, abnormal forhead, club foot, heart and or lung probs) as well as intellectual disability.
I was so releived about the positive results that I forgot to pay my phone bill and was cut off for a couple of days. I cant thank you all enough for your support. pls excuse any mistakes i make today have a splitting headache.
ALR - big big of relief for you! So happy to hear everything is fine with your little one . Hun take good care of yourself, it'll take a while for stress to wear off I think.
Again, soooo happy for your good results, wishing you a happy and healthy remainder of your PG, you can start enjoying it now!
just wanted to pop in and say thankyou to all of you for your support and concern. I went a bit depressed for a while but am getting better now. With all the ups and downs with this pregnancy i suppose it would have been unusual if I had'nt responded to all the stress. Will pop in from time to time and check on you all. thank you
