Question Blurred Vision in One Eye?

    Hi All

I'm very excited to be 32 weeks pregnant with a little boy (our first). I have gestational diabetes which is fairly well controlled with insulin.

My BP has been up and down the whole pregnancy but over the last month or so began to rise steadily, at my last OB appointment was 180/90 - so my OB has put me on Trandate to control it.

I have been having blood tests every two weeks to watch for pre-eclampsia (including a round last Friday) and have no had any protein in my urine.

Over the last few weeks, I've been having regular headaches and feeling just "off" and exhausted. The headaches aren't severe, just nagging and daily and usually improve if I can have a sleep. The OB seemed to think the Trandate would fix this and if it doesn't it's just normal late pregnancy discomfort.

Yesterday I woke up from a nap and the vision in my right eye was very blurred. It stayed this way for about 30 minutes, just as I was getting worried enough to think about calling maternity it began to clear up. I was able to get temporary relief by putting a cold compress on the eye.

I don't see the OB again until next Friday but I just don't know if I should be worried about this? I read everything I have on pre-ecclampsia and BP but couldn't find any mention of one eye only being effected so I have kind of assumed it was something else and I'm just being paranoid. But then again I'd much rather be paranoid than not if something is wrong. I'm going to pop by the chemist this morning and get my BP checked to make sure the Trandate is helping but is that enough?

Thanks in advance for your help. No one told me pregnancy would be so scary !! I have ever increasing respect for every mother I've ever met !!!

Given that you have high blood pressure, getting it checked after this would be the first thing on my list. Even if it is o.k, I would still contact the Ob and let them know. Good luck

I would def be giving them a call! Having said that I got migraines in my pregnancy with DD. Not a lot of pain but would get tunnel vision or sometimes wouldn't be able to see out of one eye - very scary but once I found out what it was it was just annoying - couldn't drive obviously :-) Hope everything wors out OK for you!

    Hults legend

It has happened a few times this week so I finally called my OB - he doesn't have the best bedside manner and is nearly impossible to get in touch with most days which is why I didn't just call him immediately just to check (but I'm in a regional town where he's the only option!)

He said it's most likely a migrane and not to worry about it. Given that it's now happening most days I still think its probably related to the Trandate as I hadn't ever had it until I started on that, but I would obviously much rather have blurry vision than the high blood pressure so I guess I'll just live with it until bubs comes in another few weeks !

Thanks for your replies though ladies

My optomitrist said that he's often had to prescribe ladies glasses during some stages of their pregnancies but once they've had the babies they haven't needed to wear them again.
