Has anyone had scans to monitor for IC??

Has anyone had fortnightly scans to monitor for Cervical Incompetence?? We lost our 2nd son in April at 23+5wks, they believe due an infection, but aren't ruling out IC. They have suggested I have fortnightly scans to monitor it, but seem fairly sure I 'don't fit the IC mould'. I am really unsure what to do I can have a stitch placed at 14 wks if I would prefer. I am asking as I have just found out I am pregnant and they need to start booking it all.

    Hgirs,
I have IC and after 2 mid term losses they finally got my treatment right. I am in the middle of work at the moment but will come back tonight and tell you my stories that eventually ended up carrying till 37 weeks and now have a 3.5 year old.

Thanks, I am so sorry you had to go through that once let alone twice! I would like to hear your stories. I had a full term birth with my first son in 06, with my 2nd I went to hospital on a sun after having a show and they found I was 4cm dialated. I had been feeling 'funny' since the Friday but nothing really felt wrong until the Sun arvo when I started to notice my BH where coming quite often and then the show. I lasted until the Tues morn when Cooper was born at 23+5wks, I don't need to tell you how devastated we were.
I am in such conflict now, as the autopsy showed stage 2 acute chorioamnionitis, most likely cause of pre-term labour. It also mentioned possible IC, the DR's however don't believe that it was IC, but in saying that cannot be sure. I don't seem to have any of the risk factors for IC, but can't help having that niggling feeling that that is what it was, and that is what let the infection in. I am going to see my GP on Monday who is wonderful and I will talk to her again about it, I am just worried if I have the scans, everything could be fine and within a couple of days it could change before the next scan.

    Hi
Sorry to hear of the loss of your son. I lost my son in November last year and my ob thinks it was due to IC. I am 11 weeks pg now and will be having a stitch placed at 14 weeks. Monitoring was mentioned but my ob did not recommend it in my situation due to how fast my cervix changed. I had my 19 week u/s 13 days before I went into labour and my cervix was closed and over 3.5cm long. Nothing to indicate a problem. A visit with my ob 5 days before his birth also showed no problems. Luke was my first child.
I am just worried if I have the scans, everything could be fine and within a couple of days it could change before the next scan.
It is for this reason that monitoring is not an option in my situation.

Congratulations on your new pg and good luck with whatever option you choose. There are some small risks associated with the stitch but to me my risk by not having it is greater and that is why I am happy to follow my ob's advice. Sorry I haven't been much help - hopefully others might have experiences with the monitoring option.

Thank you so much Jo, I am sorry Luke couldn't make it, I wish you all the best for this pregnancy.

I didn't have the stitch done but I did have the fortnightly scans. Spent the whole time terrified but I didn't want to have an possible unneccessary operation that might cause more problems down the line.

The TVU's were no real trouble at all and I always got good measurements. I was also on regimented antibiotics which I hated but again took as a precautionary measure. Apart from all the interventions I had a trouble free pregnancy the third time around.

I lost my second child at 17w due possible to a low grade infection in the placenta.

    Good luck with your decision.
