    Possibility of Listeria???

    Hi there

My husband and I went out for lunch on Sunday and I had a chicken crepe/pancake. It was not hot.

I have since found out the crepe was prepared on Saturday afternoon, stored in a cool room and supposedly heated when I ordered it on Sunday.

What do you think the chances are of me having contracted Listeria? I am off to see my GP about it this afternoon and I am hoping she can give me antibiotics just incase.

If anyone can share further information with me about this topic please do.

Don't panic!! Listeria is a very dangerous thing if you are pg but it is also relatively uncommon. I would say the chances of you contracting it are pretty slim - but if you are worried see your GP

I'd not be freaking out either, I reheat food often for dinner etc... You will be fine!

yeah I agree I wouldnt freak out too much.... it is rare....
I am not sure if you get food poisoning symptoms with listeria??? if you do and you havent had them yet i'd think you are in the clear
dont stress yourself too much about it, i am sure every preg woman has a few incidents like this in the 9-10 months!

    Thanks Ladies.

My main concern is that the chicken was only lukewarm at the most, nowhere near hot.

I was really vigilant with listeria risk with first pregnancy and pretty careful with this one - till I visited MoVida in Melbourne and ate raw, air-dried wagyu beef, runny truffled eggs and spanish jamon (cured meat). Within hours I got the panics and started worrying about it, but the risks are really low, even if you do dumb stuff like I did. There is a good article on BB about it somewhere, and the health dept stats will show you the incidence is REALLY low.

Mel, to put your mind at ease just mention it to the GP when you go this afternoon. More than like you'll be told that it's ok, but if you're stressed it' far better to talk to someone about it then ignore it.

    Hi Ladies

Thanks for all your replies, and so sorry I took so long to get back to you!

Well I went to see my Dr and she was fantastic. She was quite concerned about the chicken having been cooked the previous day then not reheated properly. So she gave me a prescription for some antibiotics which will clear the virus up if I DID get it, otherwise no harm to bubba. She said I could go for a blood test if I wanted, but the results take 7-10 days to come back which is too late to start treatment even if the result was positive.

So now I am on these antibiotics, which are making me SO SO hungry!!! I ate a whole pizza on Wednesday night and was still hungry!! Considering I can usually only eat 2 or 3 pieces max, that is disgustiing.

Feel much better now, felt the tiniest of kicks this morning from bubba (the first one I have ever felt) so that's reassuring.

Have a great day and thanks again
