Soon to have bub and now neighbour's son has Whooping cough
Well in approx a weeks time I will be having bub, and now my neighbour has just come to my door to really only just say that there is no water, but then stepped back and said Ohhh, I shouldnt stand too close as her DS has just been diagnosed with whooping cough.
Well thanks for that, so I have called the Antenatal clinic to get some advise and let her know that my kids go to the same school and are always hugging neighbours DD etc. Also that neighbour has to get all of her family tested today.
Anyhow my DD1 had the flu, but is fine now, yet I think she passed it onto DD2 so DD2 is getting tested. Now my DS1 has been sick too with what I am hoping is just the flu so I am dragging him down today to get tested. Little V isnt too bad, so have been trying to keep her clear with her ventolin which seems to be working. The MW did mention to me that my DD's should all be fine since having all their immunisations, yet I will still get DD2 checked out anyway as neighbours son was fully immunised too, but still got it.
I have started to get what appears to be flu symptoms, which I mnetioned to the MW, in which she said if I cough then not to go to hospital. Although a c/s is next week, also day monitoring next week too, which I was told if I cough not to go.
So I too am going to get checked as a precaution today, but I asked her what happens if I go into labour, she just said Ohhh just the same thing as your c/s. What ever that is supposed to mean especially after just telling me not to go to hospital. (I know sounds stupid, and I know that I will still be admitted next week, but I am worried about this unborn bub of mine)
I dont know why I am really posting in here right now, I guess need to get this off my chest. After all the stress I have been given this time with pgcy, the last thing I need or want is to end up with whooping cough and have something happen to bub.
So anyway I will see the DR today and get him to get these results done urgently, so at least I know what we are dealing with or not needing to deal with.
Wish me luck that all is fine in my household.
Thanks everyone for letting me get this off my chest.
As a rule, you need lots of close exposure to catch whooping cough - casual social contact isn't sufficient. If you look at the pattern of whooping cough spread, it generally spreads within households to people who spend many hours in close contact at a time, and rarely spreads throughout the community. It will sometimes spread through school classrooms.
It sounds to me like your exposure will be pretty limited, you should be okay. Avoid anyone from the household next door with flu-like symptoms. If your children are immunised, you might want to check on whether your children are due for boosters.
I have had two of my kids tested today, but wont get results until possibly tomorrow afternoon or later. Unfortunately the school my DD's goto have had several cases of WC, and my DR has also confirmed that he has had several patients with it too. My DD's are always hugging next door kids, which really has me worried. I am hoping though that my kids have only the flu. Also to what I am starting to feel is just the end of pgcy flu, like you get at the beginning.
My Dr did not test me, as he wants to see if the kids have it or not first, then give meds. He doesnt seem too worried about them but due to all the WC going around he wants to be sure.
So anyway guess I will find out FX tomorrow.
I really hope your right smickers, thanks.
Thankyou everyone else too, I really just needed to vent. Will let you know how the results go. hugs
Hey darl, they should have put you and the kids on Antibiotics anyway as a precaution - they did that with me & DS when I was 16wks because hubby was diagnosed with it after his BT results came back positive.
And if you do have it then bub will have to be treated with antibiotics as soon as he/she is born as well.
Hope that helps a bit - I became a bit of an expert on what they should/shouldn't do when I thought DS and I would get it, one very paranoid lady here
Well tbh Jenna I thought that is what he would have done but nope. Still havent got the results back yet have to wait now until tomorrow. Ohhh next door saw us out the front yard today and decided to come over and chat. OMG I was trying to avoid them due to the WC drama. I tried to keep my distance though, so hopefully I stood far enough away, lol.
Sorry, forgot topost yesterday that my DS1 and DD2 have both been cleared of HC, so that was a huge relief. I am thinking what I have is what both my kids have, or just an end of pgcy symptom, yet also keeping away from next door. lol.
oh what a relief, thats the last thing you would have wanted. Fingers crossed for smooth sailing for the rest of your pregnancy. Hope all the family get better soon.
