Question Has anyone had a reaction to the glucose test

    Hello,
I had my glucose test yesterday and after drinking the solution I started feeling a little sick, Then when waiting in the room for my blood test I started feeling really bad and faint. All night last night I have been vomiting I rang the mid wife this morning and she said some people can have a reaction to it and try and keep small amounts of food down and water otherwise I have to go in and get hooked up to a drip. Has anyone else had a reaction like this and could it mean that I have developed gestational diabetes?

As far as I know a reaction to the test has nothing to do with having GD or not. I couldn't even take the test with the fizzy drink because one sip made me want to vomit, I had to get them to make up a solution with powder so it wasn't carbonated.

After my GTT I felt tired and lethargic and dizzy. The person drawing the blood just said some peole feel like that, but warned me it was not a good sign.

It ended up that I have type 2 diabetes.

I dont think there is any evidence that shows that a negatvie reaction to the test means you have any form of diabetes though, I think it was the lady speculating

When I had mine a few weeks ago, I got quite faint and my heartrate sped up like it was trying to jump out of my chest. Lasted a few hours. I too worried that it would mean something like diabetes, but nope I was clear!!
Just a pure sugar high I think!!!!

Ooh not looking forward to this again! I felt just like you did after the test, sick, dizzy and faint but it ended after a few hours as far as i can remember.

EEeeeek it is horrid isn't it. I had a similar reaction, but didn't throw up- I thought I was going to pass out or throw up in the waiting room though and looked like a beached whale with my feet up on a seat and head back taking in deep breaths while people waiting for other path lab results and tests stared at the crazy pg lady. I stopped myself from throwing up while I waited though because if I did she said I would have to do it all over again as not having the sugar in my system would affect my results. I hope you are feeling better hun, and I agree that it is a huge sugar rush basically, but keep an eye on it, and definately call your carers if you can't keep anything down. Good luck.

    Thanks ladies,
I felt soooo bad last night I swear I was going to die or give bith during my vomiting episodes. I'll be so annoyed if I fail this one and have to have another one. The mid wife I spoke to this morning rang me up this afternoon for a follow up just to make sure everything was ok that was really nice of her
