Vasa Previa

I have vasa previa & I'm 28 weeks pregnant with a LTTC IVF lil baby boy. I'm being admitted to hospital this week till he is delivered.
My OB firstly told me he would do a CS at 34 weeks, but he has now said he'd like to get me to 37 weeks. I know the best place for bub's is inside, but all the info I've read states you shouldn't go over 35 weeks(from the vasa previa association).
I don't want to question my OB but I don't want to get to an emergency situation that puts bub's at risk.
I feel rude to ask him why the change of timing & I don't feel comfortable going over 35 weeks with all the risks.
We've waited so long for this baby & it will probably be our only one.
Has anyone else had vasa previa & when were you delivered?
Also is it wrong/rude to ask/question to be delivered at 35 wks not 37??

Gee thats a tough one. I can understand both your Ob wanting to get you a little further along before delivering bub but I can also completely understand you wanting him delivered at 35weeks. How has it been diagnosed? The few I have seen have all been diagnosed after delivery.

I haven't experienced this, but just wanted to say you should definitely be asking your ob why the change in the goal. They are the doctor, your not meant to know the answers! Ask away! There's nothing wrong with doing that for your own piece of mind. I'm sure they get lots of interesting questions all the time.
Make sure you explain your concerns etc!

I used to keep a list of things to ask at my next apt, so when I saw my Ob I wouldn't forget. I has preeclampsia (i know its completely different to what you are going through) but i was induced early, my goal changed from 35 weeks, and we managed to get out it to 39 weeks as my body was responding really well. I was lucky enough to spend the last month at home rather than in hospital, with monitoring every couple of days, but I made sure I voiced my concerns, questions, thoughts etc, and my ob and the midwives always answered and explained things without any issue.

I had placenta previa & at 24 weeks I had two very heavy bleeds & on US they found my placenta had broken down & the cord vessel's were exposed. I'm lucky they found it. It's very dangerous to the baby if undiagnosed.
I'm just very anxious about the whole thing it's not been the pregnancy I'd hoped for our only child. I just want him here healthy & safe.

Definitely talk to your Ob and ask them about the risks and benefits of each of the options (baby born at 35 weeks v 37 weeks). Ask what will they be doing at hospital (is it monitoring etc)? What things will they be doing to lessen any risks of keeping bub in there while he gets stronger? If you can, have someone else with you when you discuss these things who can take notes for you.

I can imagine how scared you would be. Whichever way you go you want to be as comfortable with the decision as possible, and so it is important to ask these questions if the Ob doesn't bring them up first.

Wow sorry you have had such a stressful pregnancy. Talk to your OB hun, for the most part OBs are very kind people that love babies. You are only going to ask why and talk to him about your concerns you aren't going to go in there and say you don't respect his decisions. It's a team thing hun. He can't help you if he doesn't know where you are at hugs

i am so sorry u are going thru this!

i had a grade 4 placenta previa and vasa previa with my pregnancy. unfortunatley i had 2 big bleeds and DS was delivered at 34 weeks. we didnt find out i had vasa previa until the day before DS was born and no one could tell me what it was. it wasnt until i got home and googled it that i found out how serious it was. have u had any bleeding? to be honest if you can got to 37 weeks without any bleeding then thats great! otherwise if your ob is concerned and wants to deliver your baby at 34 weeks then there must be a reason. like the others have said have a chat with him and see what he says. there might be a reason why he doesnt want to go beyond 34 weeks. its a very scary thing to be bleeding especially in late pregnancy.

Thanks Teresa, yes I had two very large bleeds at 24 & 25 wks which was scary & they then found the vasa. I'm in hospital now & will stay till bubs comes. I'm seeing him Monday to make a plan & fingers crossed I don't have any more till the CS. Thanks for the support ladies it's a bit scary at times.

Ok well we now have a date for my CS 19th December. He will be 34 weeks & 3 days. So legs crossed for no heavy bleeding between now & then

What a rough ride you've had And now you have couple of months of hospital food to top it off you poor thing
I don't know anything about vasa previa, but it sounds like you are in the best place. It's good you have an end date - something to work towards!!! I really, really hope it's all smooth sailing until then.

Hi, I had low placenta and bleeding from 30 weeks, DS was delivered at 34 +3 (had steroid injections to help his lungs when I was at 32 weeks) and he did really well. Spent some time in scn and we had delayed skin to skin contact but everything went well. Just wanted to give you a positive story and say good luck, DS was delivered by cs on 18 Dec but I think if it wasnt so close yo Christmas/NY they would have pushed me closer to 37. To be honest the first few days in hospital were torture but once I settled into the routine and had some visitors bearing lots of magazines etc I was ok. At least if you are in hospital they can have you down to the theatre and bub out in no time. Wishing you all the very best, it is an anxious time but am sure you will be fine.

3 weeks to go!! I'm going slightly kooky from being hospitalised...
I think I'm just having a bad day... Haven't slept well for a few nights...

I want to go to sleep & wake up in three weeks. I'm trying to focus on the positives.
Just venting, Im so lucky I've made it to 31 weeks & have not had any heavy bleeding for 5 weeks.

Anyway I'm sure tomorrow will be a better day

How exciting!!! We have our CS on the same day!!!

I recently had a bleed which they can't find a reason for... May I ask how they diagnosed your vasa previa???

Oh YAY, how exciting Lady Tess our babies will have the same birthday(hopefully).
I had complete placenta previa grade 4 diagnosed at 20 weeks & then after a few big bleeds at 24 & 25 weeks, another scan showed the placenta had broken down & the vessel was exposed between the two lobes.

Oh how scary... And it must suck in hospital. I know I was only stuck in there for a week and I went kooky. But I am nowhere near high risk as you, they let me go home, but I am under strict bed rest. 19 days to go.... Do you know if you are morning or afternoon surgery??
