so when will they do further testing? im glad u took my post well lol
........ the Opt said he will do the test (take photo's) when my reading glasses come in as i didn't like their colour frames as they were too dark & boring for me LOL i wanted something funky & bright, so i have to wait for a phone call from them to tell when they are in ... i was told that last Thurs and they were guessing in about 3 working days, so sometime this week i should be getting the test done (i hope)
(Squid, how's your FIL doing ??)
Smiles - i have a couple of "spots" that have been discovered on examinations. i now have the dilation of my eyes every 12 months to monitor. on examination, they were nothing nasty (though they did find that my visual issues are more complex than we thought). my optometrist keeps a very close eye on me (excuse the pun!) and has sent me to specialists to have detailed visual field tests done and have more examination by specialists
make sure you take DP with you when you go for this exam - you won't be able to drive for at least a few hours, and will have very sensitive eyes for a while
... thanks heaps BG, yeh he warned me too about not driving as vision will be blurred from the drops he puts in. It was his reaction when he asked about my recent skin cancer scare that worried me some. I'm the sort of person that needs to face all outcomes as i cope better that way if i'm to have a bad surprise as i call it (reason also behind this thread) that way to me anything less is a bonus![]()
My uncle just had an operation (3 weeks ago) for a cancer on his eye. I don't know what his initial symptoms were but he came through the op really well and he is 72 and there has been absolutely no deterioration to his eyesight (it wasn't perfect to start with but got no worse at least)
Hopefully since they are not in a massive rush to test you its only precautionary but just wanted to let you know of a positive worst case scenario.
it was 24 hours with my bro so hey thats positive for you hey![]()

... saw a friend yesterday whom i told her i have been told i have a black spot behind the eye, and hope to get it checked out soon.
And i said to her it could be anything meaning it could be an ok outcome ... with that she had a positive look on her face and said " Yeh that's right " smiling whilst she said it then in the next breath she said " My Dad had the same thing and he had to have chemo " ... then she realised what she said wasn't so much a positive response then she tried to cover it by saying " Oh but he has diabetes and it's common to have in his situation " ... Harr harr you would have thought i would have freaked but i found the funny side to her slipping up with what was meant to be something positive to my ears
(I'm still waiting for a phone call from the Opt receptionist, i will ring tomorrow as i wanna get this over with)
Hiya Smiles,
I don't know how relevant this may be to you, but I have Macular Degeneration in my left eye. When the opthalmologist takes pics of my eye it shows up as a black spot on the retina. It's basically a weeny little growth on the blood vessels on the retina, and they sometimes leak fluid/blood which looks black on the picture. The growth damages the nerves and causes a blind spot.
If you look at a bunch of straight lines do any of them look warped? (I use MS Excel to test my eyes, lol)
It doesn't really have a known cure at this point in time, but I have had a couple injections into my eye with the same stuff they use to treat bowel cancer (but a lot lower dosage) that seems to have stopped the growth so far![]()
Update : as of Tuesday 27th of July, GOOD NEWS had my further test and the Optometrist said the black spot behind is OK for now and to have it checked again in 1 year due to my own cancer history (which to be honest has me a little worried, can't stand any little black clouds hanging over me BUT at least for now i know i'm good)
First eye drop that went in did sting a little but nothing to worry about then i waited a few minutes then he put another different eye drop in which he got me to wait about 5mins with. Something that i wasn't warned about was when i got home i looked in the mirror to see with slight blurred vision my right eye which was tested the eye pupil was huge compared to me left eye, was like a freak show, too funny ... it did go back to normal as soon as my vision in that right eye was no longer blurry which was a few hours later. I caught up with a couple of friends about 90mins later (no i didn't drive that would be crazy) and they couldn't stop staring at my huge right pupil, rofl![]()
