Question Black spot behind eye ... What was your or someone you know outcome ??

    Hi all,

To cut a long story short on my very first recent eye check up at a reputable Optometrist (my GP did warn me in so many words there are some dodgy ones, and she highly recommended this Optometrist), ... amongst the checkup being done the Optometrist told me he looking obvious in hiding his concern that he found a ' black spot ' behind my right eye and that when i come in to pick up my reading glasses this week (yes apparently it's common when you reach about 45 to be getting reading glasses - OMG i never felt so old when he told me this ) anyhow he will place drops in my eyes and take photo's of it and hopefully gets results of what it is (meaning if it's eye cancer) ...

My question is has anyone here or someone you know very well (sorry no friend of friend stories) been told during a check up they have a black spot and what was the outcome (and what happened after that) ??

After myself having a close call with breast cancer which resulted in surgery at 34, and then another close call with skin cancer last December where i had chunks taken out of my arm, i'm just hoping this is another 'C word ' bullet i can dodge again

    TIA for any helpful advice

i know you dont want a friends story and its because of this that i am posting even tho i wish i wasnt as i dont know how you may feel about what i will say,

Well my step brother about 40+ years his vision started to go in one eye all of a sudden after a brief check up he was sent to get more tests done. It was found he had cancer. The upside is they found it in time. Yes much later than your finding but in his case there were not able to save his eye. but he still lives a for-filling happy life I hope you get some real answers soon sweet xoxoxox thinking of you

............................. thank you so much YES i want to hear ' any ' outcomes, good stories or ones that are not (just not totally gruesome ones as someone put a post on my gallstone thread last year and it was so uncalled for, as details can be told but not in such a negative emotion behind it and without with the absolute deepest impact of fears put into) ... strangely enough i'm kind of ok about it with myself, if i have to lose an eye i oddly enough feel lucky about it as i think about my young SIL who lost her life last year to cancer, and i'd rather lose an eye then my life if it came down to it. It's when i think of my little 4year old DD then i feel stressed about the ' not knowing yet ' IYKWIM - i guess what it is i hardly known anything about what ' black spots ' is all about and i figured this thread might give me a bit of an i idea !!

........ the Opt said he will do the test (take photo's) when my reading glasses come in as i didn't like their colour frames as they were too dark & boring for me LOL i wanted something funky & bright, so i have to wait for a phone call from them to tell when they are in ... i was told that last Thurs and they were guessing in about 3 working days, so sometime this week i should be getting the test done (i hope )

(Squid, how's your FIL doing ??)

Smiles - i have a couple of "spots" that have been discovered on examinations. i now have the dilation of my eyes every 12 months to monitor. on examination, they were nothing nasty (though they did find that my visual issues are more complex than we thought). my optometrist keeps a very close eye on me (excuse the pun!) and has sent me to specialists to have detailed visual field tests done and have more examination by specialists

make sure you take DP with you when you go for this exam - you won't be able to drive for at least a few hours, and will have very sensitive eyes for a while

My uncle just had an operation (3 weeks ago) for a cancer on his eye. I don't know what his initial symptoms were but he came through the op really well and he is 72 and there has been absolutely no deterioration to his eyesight (it wasn't perfect to start with but got no worse at least)

Hopefully since they are not in a massive rush to test you its only precautionary but just wanted to let you know of a positive worst case scenario.

I have 3 black spots in my eye. Went to an opthamologist and it turned out that it was just the make-up of my eye. They check my eyes every 12 mths and no changes for the last 4 years other than during pregnancy, they got a couple of millimetres bigger. They reduced in size after I had the boys!

Do you mean as in specks on the front of the iris ?? ... as i have plenty of those (more so on my right eye) but the Opt said they are fine it's just the black spot that i can't see but he could with his equipment behind my eye that he wants to check out further !!
