Would laying that side of her head on a soft covered hotwater bottle / warmed wheat pack help at all?
This is what I was told to do when I came crying into my parents bedroom with a sore ear. I took their advice and after struggling to fall asleep was fine afterwards (the only time I had a really sore ear when I was like 7)
