Help - relieving this dry, tickly cough.

    Hi,

I'm at my wits end with this annoying dry tickly cough. Its the end of a little cold and it is really starting to irritate me. I've lost sleep with it for the last 2 nights and its about to happen again tonight I think because I haven't stopped coughing all day. Which is the last thing I need with a 5 week old and an active toddler.

I am BF'ing my 5 week old - so alot of the usual cough medicines are out. But is there anything I could get from the chemist - that would actually work too, as i don't particuarly want to waste money either. Or is there anything natural I could make up - is honey something that'll work. If so what can I do with it?

The cough is worse when I lay down, but is still around throughout the day and standing. It just seems to mainly be tickle the top of my throat (like little hairs). And because of all the coughing I'm now getting a sore chest (and an annoyed DH ) and a sore throat (like it is getting raw).

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

You could try a tablespoon of honey, it works well for both myself and my 4 y.o when we get those annoying coughs

2 panadeine tabs every 6 hours. the codeine in it is a great cough suppressant. won't affect breast feeding.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

Might have a honey and lemon tea before bed and take a couple of panaedine. I'm so tired i'm hoping i'll just crash when my head hits the pillow...fingers crossed.

This could be a long shot, but when I had a similar experience right before my wedding/honeymoon, I saw a dr about it, and they gave me a very mild asthma pump thing just to get me through for a week until it healed, and it worked great. I'm not sure if you can use it while BFing, or if dr's should even do it (he acted like he was doing something 'not quite right'), but it might be worth a try if all else fails!!
