    Inhaler & Increased Appetite

I've been put on both antibiotics & an inhaler because I have bronchitis & in the last five days I have been so so hungry. Hungry to the point that when I had to get up for one of the kids at 3am the other night I felt like I could eat anything and everything.

Is this a possible side affect or maybe something else? I've been on the same antibiotics before & I know it's not that.

I think that is a steroid.

Sounds like Symbicort inhaler, which has a steroid in it (which is very helpful for lung function). Increased appetite can be a side effect of steroids.

Sorry you have bronchitis - nasty thing it is.

I agree it is the steroids in it.

We found with DD that the hunger developed once the steroids started to make a difference, the first few times it was with a couple of days but her last respiratory infection it took 5 days before the steroids made a difference and we knew about it as when she woke in the afternoon she ate for 2 hours straight after not eating for 5 days!

I hope you get over the Bronchitis very soon, bugger for having 9 more days to go

    Inhaler & Increased Appetite

It started the same day I started the inhaler (Monday) and has continued since, it only started helping last night too. It's like that pregnant feeling of "I must eat now or I might just die" LOL.

I get that with my inhaler as well. I also have had to take prednisolone with my asthma before which has caused HUGE appetite increases.

In animals, when they have any steriods, there is like an instant reaction of hunger. We often have to remind owners to not over feed their animals, as they will put on heaps of weight. In our chemo patients, we have been known to give a small dose of steroids in order to help improve appetite.

Steroids for three years for my arthritis - NOT good! At least with the prednisone that I take it does settle after a bit, and it does seem to stop as soon as the steroids stop, too.
