Question Lump in my armpit.. *Very gross*

About 5 mins ago i got an itchy underarm so i scratched and it was still itchy so had a look at what was there and i noticed a scab so i picked it and then without thinking i squeezed it and all this yellowy gunk came out, there was ALOT of it! And now there is a lump about the size of a 10c peice there. Its very sore now and when i squeeze lots of fluid comes out..

Does anyone know what it could be, an ingrown hair? Should i get it checked out??

Is the area red? Or does it feel warm?
If there is a lot of stuff coming out it is probably infected which will require some treatment so I would be going to the Dr.

sounds like an infected cut from shaving or maybe an ingrown hair. stop squeezing - the fluid you are getting now will be plasma that is there to try and carry antibodies to heal and fight infection. the inflammation is pretty normal - again, part of the inflammatory response. leave it be for at least 12 hours, and see after that if it is better or worse/no change - then head to the doctors

it's quite possible it was just a big pimple under your arm from sweating and stuff - the size of it NOW is related to your body sending all the lymphatic fluid to help heal it now though

could be a sebaceous cyst too. I often get them there and in my groin.

eta should have refreshed before I posted

it might be something like that - i wouldn't panic about the size or what it is til you give it some time to settle after being attacked though.

It could have been a sebaceous cyst from an ingrown hair. I'd get it looked at to be sure.

Did the stuff that came out look like cottage cheese?

If it's a sebaceous cyst, the sac has to be surgically removed or it will just fill up again and come back

Hahaha if it were me I would be picking it apart with a needle!

    BUT DONT DO THAT

As others have said, leave it alone and get a DR to look at it if it gets worse, doesn't go away etc!

Its why i havent told DP about it. He has ALWAYS wanted something like this so he could squeeze all the gunk out of it

ooh, the last one i had was just after coming back from holiday - it was huge and nasty - and the redness spread from my armpit half way to my elbow - it swelled up nasty bad like you explained, relieved some pressure, then left it for 48 hours before deciding if it needed seeing to - it's now pretty much gone so it's obviously heeling itself

tehehehe i feel like the only person assuming it's nothing major and waiting it out! i am someone that is prone to swelling like that around any "injury" - it's part of how i heal - so i tend to not panic unless it doesn't heal itself in a day or two

the cottage cheesy thing is something i get every now and again - always in a different spot, so it's not like it is a cyst refilling - i got one checked and the quack said it was more like a pimple with a build up of gunk in it from my BO basher! so now i work on the principle of giving it a day to settle down before i start thinking it's anything more than a pimple in a bad place.
