I just wanted to know from anyone who 'suffers' with psoriasis and has then had a pregnancy in which the P improved, how soon into the pregnancy did you notice it improving????
With my DD my psoriasis improved that much that I only had one or two spots on my scalp. It took years for it to come back, and it seemed to be progressing slowly when it returned.
With DS, I had a few patches that were starting to get noticeable, scalp mainly. I noticed that when I started my IVF injections they started to disappear, and I only spent about a week injecting.
Can't quite remember when I noticed the difference it my psoriasis with DD though.
Mostly mine hasnt changed at all, but saying that I do have new patches on the tops of both feet that I have never had before.. Its a bummer, I was hoping it would improve... you never know maybe it still will
I've hardly had a flare up at all during pregnancy - really noticeable after the 1st trimester. Have just had a tiny bit on my scalp which is AMAZING for me as my scalp and arms are usually covered. My thighs have been a little flarey but nowhere near as much as when I wasn't pregnant.
3rd trimester now and have noticed my skin on my arms looking tired and scarred (from previous flare ups!) but them and my scalp are nice and clear apart from that.
My psoriosis inproved heaps during pregnancy, I had decided to not use any ointments etc either.
But now my scalp is nasty - has been where I have been getting it the worst in the last few years, I had a flare up on my LHS bbs (never had it there before, but a couple of days of ointment and seems to be holding it back), also got small patches on my elbows and RHS knee, but not enough for me to worry about IYKWIM.
It improved a few months into my pregnancy, I reckon end of first Tri was when I really noticed the difference
I got P after i had my DD... Its in the family My mum suffers terribly and after DD was born i was a bit stressed and started noticing these itchy spots on my elbows and knees and bottom of my scalp. have a few little spots now but its cleared up well. Guess i'll have to wait to see next pregnancy...
My psoriasis completely cleared in both pg by the end of the first tri. After DS it was nearly 12 months before it returned (), but with DD it flared after the first couple of months. But those clear times were awesome.
My P started with my DD's pregnancy, on both elbow's and one knee. Stayed that way until after my sons pregnancy, was approx 6 months after he was born and it just went nuts all over my body, except my scalp and feet and face and genitals. I do though have it EVERYWHERE else. It started with little spots popping up, and now almost a year since the spotting started the spots have pretty much join ed together so i just have massive patch's. The front of my thighs and around the side are all P, down my calf to my ankles. Its on my BBS, tummy, back is spreading, hips, arms are generally covered..
Thing is, normally my P is red, inflammed, very itchy and looks nasty.... i have noticed this morning it is retreating on my arms.... where the P has been is now just white skin (i have gone almost black on my skin from the UV treatment), and you cna see it retreating... and my arms are NOT itchy... VERY VERY STRANGE.
The P on my legs look diferent too, its gone a more pink colour like it is trying to do the same, still slightly itchy, but nothing like normal.
I am really confused, and i said to DF only thing i could think of is maybe im pregnant... /hmmm
But if i am, i am only just so i wasnt sure if it has an immediate affect or what...
Although, i did buy this sea salt scrub thing from eastland the other day... i dont nomrally buy into every person who says they have something that would help me, but this stuff was nice and she dropped it half price (or so she told me lol you know marketing)... i used it the other day ONCE.. would of been friday morning last week. Havent used it again as it did sting a little... and i kinda figured i was fooling myself it would work.. BUT, what if it is that?
I think I've told you what it was like for me in another thread? Anyway, just for those that have it, you go into remission during pg because while you are pg your body goes into an immuno-supressed state to allow the baby to grow, otherwise it would abort the baby, hence why you see an improvement around the end of the 1st trimester when baby is relying on the placenta. Psoriasis is an auto-immune disease and this is why most women get some degree of remission during pg.
*snap* LOL. It could be that the UV treatment is starting to work too and you will get some white pigmentation from where the plaques have been.
hey trill, i actually haven't had any uv treatment since before xmas. It wasn't doing anything, and getting to my dermo 3 times a week was a joke. So i dropped it.

well, we havent exactly been trying i.e i wasnt charting or anything, but we decided to just DTD and if we fell great. If we didnt, no biggie.
If i am i would only just be, and this is why i am trying to figure out IF it could start having some affect on my P so soon..... i honestly dont think it is this sea salt scrub thing... and i am not trying anything else. If anything my P should be worse right now as i have one tube of my ointment left and have hardly been putting it on, trying to preserve it for when i need it. And well, i havent needed it... it hasnt been bothering me too much.... and then i noticed this morning it is retreating on my arms and changing in looks on my legs.
I just wouldnt have thought pregnancy would work so quick, if i am that is... i dont even know if i am yet... will know by wed or thursday this week!
My dad got on to some dead sea salt stuff years ago. I would add it to a bath and it helped immensly! especially my scalp, i would just soak in the bath then turn the shower on to rinse myself off when finished.
Maybe it's a combination of it all?
I have eczema, not psorasis, so not sure if it is the same, but my gets so much worse in pregnancy. That was when my huge flare up happened, when i was pg with DS. Apparently like 95% of peoples gets better & virtually goes away in pregnancy, and the others of us, well, life sucks huh! My dermo said it was also due to the slightly higher body temp during pregnancy that dries to skin out more.
In terms of UV therapy, i find it only improves once i hit over 7 mins, and when i go at least twice a week. I normally only have to keep up that dosage for maybe 4 weeks along with other stuff to basically go into remission. It's getting to the 7 mins that takes ages.
