I'm sorry if my reply came back as not sympathetic - I really hope all the tests come back positive and it's just some weird virus making it's way out of his system.
Did the GP check his BSL? (the one on the finger pad?) I know when my friend (in her 30s) suspected she had it (as her sister & mum do) she checked herself on her sisters machine and her levels were sky high - so you would think your son's would also be if he did have and that would give you some indication.
If it is diabetes it is really hard to come to terms with any chronic ongoing condition that your children have, you would do anything to take it away and have it yourself (my son is on the autism spectrum), but you can't unfortunately. And yes, the reality is you will spend the rest of your life trying to educate peopleBut there is also a lot of wonderful support out there that does help
And I was trying to put a positive spin on it, because now that my niece is part the chronic part and they pretty much have it managed via her peg etc (there are also hiccups along the way if she gets sick, or something happens to the machine etc), but for the most part she is just a gorgeous happy carefree girl whose diabetes is a small part of her life. I think it is useful that her parents look at it as a small thing in the background of what she has going on, rather than getting anxious and overt the top all the time, as it helps my niece see herself as normal also. Yes, she can't eat whatever she wants at party's, but that is the same as plenty of kids with allergies, ut mostly she is just her IYKWIM?
