i was having sharp pains on my right side (i had cysts on both sides but the right one was alot bigger 4.5cm) umm everytime i had sex i would get sharp pains in either side and the spasms that i felt were like the ones you described (like your eye twitching)
it started off just like a little bit of cramping and gradually got worse...

Laura how did they find your cyst? Ultrasound?

I used to get heaps of UTI's a few years ago and eventually they sent me for an ultrasound and they checked everything. All turned out to be fine. That was three years ago now.

I'm definitely making an appointment with a different GP.

yes after a few doctors visits he finally sent me for an ultrasound and the right one was 4.5cm and the left was only about 2-3cm i had a lap done and they drained the cysts and checked for endometriosis (sp?)

What do they actually do when they do a lap?

well its a day stay surgery (unless there is complications)
they put me to sleep, i had two incisions, one in my belly button and one at the top of my pubic area (sorry tmi )
some people have three incisions (the other one is near your hip bone)
they pump gas in there just to separate everything and so they can see what they are doing with their little camera and they drained my cysts and they were going to burn off any endometriosis if they found any.

afterwards when i woke up i was in a fair bit of pain so they just give you morphine and they also sent me home with panadiene forte. i got really bad annoying pains in my shoulders over the next few days and that is just the excess gas escaping.

That sounds pretty full on. What if they don't find anything? I'd feel so stupid for having done it.

But as Dach said - any changes should be checked out right? Especially seeing as we will be starting TTC next year.

they only did that after i found out i had the cysts.
we were TTC and having no luck and i think that may have been why coz as soon as i had those removed i got a BFP!!!!

I think I'll go to my normal GP but get a referral to a different gyn.

I've made a list of things that I need to mention...

    - spasms
    - sharp pain on left side following a spasm
    - dull 'period' pain after spasm
    - painful sex
    - heavy and painful periods
    - history of UTI's
    - previous scan for cysts in bladder and ovaries three years ago - all clear
    - diagnosed with thrush which has infected some glands
    - on the pill for 8 years

I think that is everything - and I'm hoping he will find a link of some sort so I can bet better and get on with a normal, healthy life!

Thanks so much for all your help girls.

I've made a GP app for Thursday to get a referral. I'll talk about it with DH tonight too - he's mighty keen to find a solution too and is a bit sick of the gyn's solutions not working. Me too!

    amysarah,
i have got abdominal adhesions from a bowel op and i to have pain alot and painful sex unfortunately (i know what you mean bout being young and having a normal sex life) im 20 so do understand.
a gynae will prob do a lap and ultrasounds to find the cause.
TMI ALERT iam on the pill and still bleed continously but i have pcos and am in pain anyway.
you dont need to see a gp specialising in womens health just go to your gp explain whats happening and ask for a referal to a gynae.
sorry couldnt be more help if you have any questions pm me.
hope you are ok and get to the bottom of it its not fun at all.
    take care huni

    Thanks again girls.

I have an appointment with a gynaecologist on 22nd October so I will hopefully get some answers then. Based on my symptoms the GP is thinking it could be endometriosis. But I'm hesitant to take his word until I see the GYN.

    You've all been so helpful!
